Not at all, Hans. It was a stupid thing to do - and I'd like to think that I'm not a stupid person. God, Jersey Shore - one of the reasons that I left Rhode Island was due to all of the wanna-bes. Unreal. It really makes you wonder how many stupid people there are in this world.

Driving under the influence under any circumstance is not okay - like I said, I'm not intending to encourage this kind of behavior. I myself am still amazed at what I did. The fact that law enforcement were not involved at any level is truly amazing. I would be ruined, as well as losing the various USCG-issued maritime credentials that I have worked so hard to get.

Immature, stupid and un-called for.

I think you know what to do and you realize how bad your actions were, so to that im not going to comment. To your original question, yes. A matter of fact, Ive been going through it for 3 months now. Most of my marriage I have been away from my wife. Every time I come back, we have to get "re-connected". We have considered divorce before, but we do love each other. Coming and going constantly takes a toll on any relationship. This deployment has been hard on me and my marriage for many reasons that im not going to go into. The wife and I have talked and agreed that when I get back we are going to work on things and try to make our marriage better and Im going to try to get into a different type of job. We got married very quick (3 months after knowing each other-i know i know...), and have been married for 3.5 years now. We still dont know each other like we should, and thats part of the problem. But like I said its something we both are wanting to work on. So yes you are not the only one that goes through these things. I see it a lot in the military b/c the nature of the job. My advice, decide what YOU want and go with it. If you love the chick, work it out. If not and dont want to work on it...move on. Good luck and sorry for the long post.

 

As for the blackouts from rage... I have had it once before. And then learned to avoid them.

I am a very peaceful person with a very, very, very long fuse. The easiest way to describe it is that it is a purely animal survival mechanism, and it does not require alchohol and not everyone has it.

For me I learned the symptoms that lead up to it are 1st anger, 2nd no-emotion coldly calculating, 3rd is no emotion/no intellect animal rage. Learn to recognize stage 2, and learn to walk away. Stage 2 for me is good in an emergency, I just do what has to be done. Otherwise, nothing that brings you to Stage 2 is worth it. Change your lifestyle if something repeatedly brings you there.

In my own non-medical opinion. Don't dwell on Stage 3. It is less than who you are as a whole. Not a different you that you have to worry about. You can always control it at stage 1 or 2 if you learn to recognize it. Your concern about the blackouts is a glimpse at PTSD. You did what your body thought it had to do to survive. If it bothers you a lot go see someone about it.

lol, yea. I've managed to stop myself at stage 2 a couple times. Op, I understand about being out of the "loop" in terms of society. Start small, read a book at a book store, go to a mall. Than grab food with local friend if you have one around. Or I would say take a martial arts class like muy thai. It'll help burn off stress in the best possible way and help you ease into socialization
