And yes, my Valley Girl ^^^^ was locked and had ATRAC. I also think it was the inspiration for the 917 Gulf paint scheme!!!

AWSOME!!! I had a '66 Plymouth Belvedier.......had a 383 in it, and I used to try to chew up my buddies in the Mustangs....If I could stop the one tire from burning into carbon, It would hold its own pretty good.......

i was going through some old pics to post in the up coming cleghorn run and came across this FJ with ATRAC and came across this FJ that was with us on a snow run a few years back. here's what i posted........

some random guy in his FJ trying to get up this bypass..and this is funny shit now that i remember this..he had a hard time trying get up but couldnt. kept trying and trying..finally we told him to turn off his ATRAC and sure enough he made:cookie: the ATRAC was preventing wheel spin which he needed to keep his momentum going...i bet brandonh remeberes this as well hahahahahah

I remember that like it was yesterday, and yes, his A-Trac was limiting his ability to climb the hill.

What A-TRAC does is match wheel rotation... If you get to a point in a hill climb where the truck seems to stop, you need to mash the gas pedal (show it who's the boss) and the A-TRAC will rotate all 4 tires just like front and rear lockers. If you don't want that much delay, engage the rear locker with A-TRAC and you have no hesitation with matching tire rotation on the back axle... your front drive remains open until you drop to 3 mph and then A-TRAC wakes up and provides front traction equality.

I see examples of giving up on A-TRAC too soon here.

The great thing about the Off Road 4WD is that we have NINE choices of how to drive the wheels, so if you want no traction control, you can have open diffs. in H2, H4 and L4 as well as a locker, TRAC and A-TRAC.

David, he tried it with the rear locked and A-Trac
Engaged. For almost 30 minutes, he tried to climb the hill. It just sat there and didn't know what to do. The computer was limiting wheel spin to all wheels, therefore couldn't make it up. We finally told him to turn it off and he made it no problem

Do FJ's have completely open diffs (no mechanical lsd)?

im curious. what is the hardest thing youve done in your truck? I have a feeling you love atrac so much because it hasnt failed on you...yet...

ATRAC never makes all 4 wheels turn the same speed smoothly. i watched atrac get you in pretty deep at devils slide. you turned it off and went 4hi to get up one section. f/r lockers would have walked up that...

Sorry, I should have been specific.

Are they like Tacoma 4x4 OR's where they are open until they use A-trac or rr locker?

Does ATRAC work better with Amsoil or Mobil 1?
