2010 DCLB TRD Sport Rear Diff Fluid

    So i've read the how-to threads on changing the rear diff and was all set to change mine out with Mobil 1 75 w 90 and with the LSD additive (since i have a sport) and then i've been reading posts from as recent as last month saying only 2005-2008 Sport models need the LSD additive? Also, i had read some complaints about using Mobil 1 oil...

    Anyone know what's up with these comments? I returned the oil and additive until i get some clarification. I'm at 29,850 miles so i'm doing it pretty much as soon as i get a clear answer. Thanks in advance!

    Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
    You have an E-LSD meaning the LSD action is control via the brakes and therefore no clutch packs. (Layman's terms = it's an open differential).

    You don't need the additive and I would recommend Mobil 1.

    From what I understand the additive won't hurt anything even if you don't need it, so you can probably go either way. FWIW, I used Redline 75w90 which has the additive mixed in. Haven't had any problems.

    If you don't mind me asking where did you get it? All i've got for parts stores where i'm at is Autozone and Advance Auto Parts, not sure I saw it at either...

    As mentioned above, you have an E-LSD, not the mechanical type. Mobile 1 will work fine in your case and you won't need an LSD additive. Mobile 1 (and certain other synthetics), even with the LSD additive, seems to cause chatter in the mechanical LSDs. Using the Redline Synthetic with the LSD additive won't hurt your differential.

    Ok awesome, Thanks for the help guys. Was it a change in 09 or 10 that made it an e-lsd instead of mechanical? just trying to see why after 08 you dont need it anymore. glad to have the answer though!
