Bought Used Blue Cap for Black Truck

So I was up in VT working on post Irene damage repair of a railroad bridge. I was lloking on local craigslist for a cap like I would normally be doing in CT and found one. The guy agreed to drivedown 2 hours to meet me. As he got close I had to call and inform him that I wasn't able to pull all the money out of the ATM cause of my daily limit. (My bank said they were going to increase it but they FAILED) Guy continues anyway!! Shows up and says I can just mail him a check!!! Throws it on and it is SWEET. Has a contractor grade roof rack, windoors with screens, locks all around. This guy is the shit and is a former TW member. I sent him payment.

So my question is should I get it color matched or LineXed?

 

It is more noticable up close and my wife wants it painted.

 

Voted LineX...but I'm curious to see what others say. Have you thought about doing it yourself with spray bedliner?

 

I was told it is super easy to remove the windows and door. Im open minded to anything.

 

Get it painted to match the truck. Once you go Line-X, it's a done deal where as in a year or so if you decided you really want the Line-X look you still have that option with paint. Plus being Line-Xed and nothing else having Line-X may look goofy. Just my .02

 

I'm considering a used topper myself, and will probably do Line-X because my truck is MGM color. Color matched may be better, OP, since you have a gloss black truck.

 

Looks like your decision is made already. Our opinions aren't worth nearly as much as hers. FWIW, I agree with your wife. Color match.

I'd color match it. Since you have black though, you might be able to get away with doing it yourself if you're feeling ambitious. It won't be quite as durable but will hold up fine for normal use and probably save you some $$$.

Rather than Line-X, I'd use DIY bed liner. Kits can be bought online for around $100 for the rubberized bed liner, the gun and everything you need.

Someone actually did Plastidip a shell. He made a thread about it and ended up peeling it off and reselling the cap.

 

Yeah, I'm not actually considering it, just thought it was a funny idea.

If you have it painted, please post back with how much it cost. I'd like to pick up a shell and I'll almost certainly want it painted.
