Who has a supercharger on their 2nd gen tacoma?

Hi guys and gals....wanted to find out who has a supercharger on the tacoma and what you think about it? does everbody have the TRD s/c or other brands of s/c? did you order it and then have the dealer install it?

I have the TRD SC.

TRD because it is 100% covered under Toyota warranty and does not void ANY of the truck warranties.

Hassle free, loaner car during the installation.

How new is your truck and do you want a warranty?

 

thx for the info guys. I had an '06 new in '06...but ended up selling it. Have been thinking about picking up a new 12....but one of the things that I didn't care for on the '06 was....little power out of the hole....getting on freeway ramps...leaving stop lights ...etc. To make sure I keep this new truck...I think it is gonna need a supercharger to help it along.

 

I dont quite think the 12' Superchargers have made it out yet. I saw a thread about it somewhere on here. Something about a couple things being a little different in the motor. If i was you id go with URD if you dont care about warranty. URD is going to get you more power with there staged kits.

 

You are talking about the V6 right?

Both my 2007 and 2009 seemed to have pretty decent power and didn't seem doggy out of the hole to me.
Was your 2006 lifted without regearing?

The SC definitely helps though. I noticed the most gain in partial throttle. The reflash changed the shifting characteristics and is more of a pain in the ass to shift fast under acceleration (6SP Manual).

It's only been a couple weeks for me though and I don't get on it all the time.

Still averaged 16.66 MPG with mashing the throttle on more than one occasion.

St's turbo setup if you don't Offroad..... Urs if you don't care about warranty an don't wanna turbo ... Trd for warranty only.... And my 06 is faster then my 5.3 Chevy with boltons so u may wanna look into a sports car instead v6 tacos are actually pretty decent in the acceleration department as far as trucks go

 

Wow I'm surprised you think the stock v6 is too slow to get on the freeway. I guess I don't own a sports cars, but you can really get on the v6 and get going when you need too. That's my impression at least. As for stop lights, how fast do you need to take off??? Maybe just getting in the correct lane before your at a stop light instead of trying to get in the lane with no one else, then cutting everyone off to get where you need to might be a better alternative just kidding just kidding.. but I hate people that do this!!!

I want a TRD SC as well thought I admit. Only option for us CA people. More for the fun factor, I cant find any way to justify it to myself though, I really dont NEED it at all. I already drive like a slow poke.

 

I want to S/C the truck, but with 115K on the odometer I'm worried about engine longevity. If I do it, it will be a URD because I'm already out of warranty.

 

I've had the TRD S/C for almost two years. Well worth the price. Nice torque, helps when you're towing. Around town mileage jumped about 2mpg as long as I keep my foot out of it. Best part is it totally acts like a stock truck until you mash it. It will puff just about any V-8 full size truck. I've surprised a few.
Zero regrets.

 

What I would do is get a TRD supercharger. Then when the warranty runs out throw a URD EMI on it with new injectors and it will get you over 400hp

 

While not a drag racer, my stock v6 auto 4x4 dclb is at least as fast as my chipped 2.0t Audi A4 was. I've had to be careful leaving lights in it cause it will light the rears up easily especially in the rain. So I wouldn't call stock slow, but a s/c would be fun. I bet it would help towing too.

thanks for all the great input. Maybe I will just be stock for a while with the new truck and do a lift, wheels and tires and see how it goes. Gelo...not sure what you are refering to amigo..no posing here. I owned a new tacoma in '06....which I sold a year later. Probably should have kept that. I have had at least 15 cars/trucks since then. Long term for a dailydriver..the tacoma makes good sense to me...that's why I am revisitng the idea of owning one.

p.s. I really don't want to daily drive a sports car...i think the tacoma would be much more well rounded and useful for a daily driver.....save the vette for the weekends.

 

I plan to do the URD supercharger upgrade to my 2.7 after the warranty expires and I get some extra coin in my pocket
