Dunno about the prevalence of tailgate theft, but I was at a dealer today and a guy drove up in a Tacoma from which the catalytic converter was stolen.

Service guy said it happens all the time. They had one person who was visiting their doctor and the converter was stolen off their car while it was parked outside.

Oh yeah it's very common out where I am. In one guy's car alone they found 8. As a matter of fact the local PD and Toyota dealer are installing anti theft stuff on Tacomas and 4Runners no charge to the owners if you can provide proof of residency.

Was it keyed because you have an anti-theft devise installed and they could't steal it?

You got your own tailgate back. Awesome !!!!!!!

I can't comment on what you did after... (snicker snicker)

No tailgates but lots of cats. Finally caught 2 of them. The shop was being tagged for one or two a week.

^^^ beautiful dog. If you ever have any pups I'd be interested. And to keep it on topic I use the hose clamp on tailgte and a chamber lock on my bed extender theft is not too bad around here but it does happen

Arcticfox, I had a key lock installed in my tailgate. The complete latch is changed moving the camera from the right side to the left side, this was over a month ago with no issues.
Sorry I do not have a make or model.
There is a link on this site will walk you through the "hose clamp" install.
