    Hey TW members,

Traded in my beloved 05 Jeep Rubicon Unlimited for an '11 DCLB. I don't really wheel anymore, and the arrival of our third child, as well as the need to haul wood, garbage, dogs, etc. pretty much necessitated the trade. This is my first pickup. I wanted to get a '12, but the dealer made it impossible to pass on this leftover fully loaded '11.

    Anywho, here's what I "had":

    Winchmount6_2009e62a3987573d0becc6ad8acce9485c4c718c.jpg

    And here's what I "got":
    Tacoma_f65e263855e60fe1d28dd13ff1ec9700b0a850e7.jpg

Yes, it's stock for now, but that's why I'm here. I don't leave anything stock for very long. This won't be an offroad machine (would have gotten the short bed TRD OR for that), but I've read alot on here already and appreciate all the wisdom and experience this board has to offer. Thanks.

    Dave

I'm in the same situation. I currently have a 98 sahara. With the two kids and having to make frequent runs to HomeDepot for material for the house, I'm forced to get rid of the jeep. Just can't afford the Taco that I want right now. Getting married next year so if I come home with another truck right now, the misses will be upset. So I have to wait. But it's killing me everyday. I want my Taco in the worst way. Good Luck with yours though.

Welcome to TW. I also had a 05 rubicon. Man that thing was a monster off road. But my problem was the fuel mileage. I was getting about 12mpg. That just wasnt cutting it.

    Welcome!

So, you won't be missing going off road with the front and rear lockers of your Rubicon?

Congrats on the growing family... a 4 door is manditory for sure!

Do the yellow wire (4-Low-Trac) mod to get TRAC to work in Low Range (just in case)!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone, I've literally been glued to the TW website for the last 48 hours reading about all the modifications available to this truck! I cannot believe how many worthwhile improvements there are to be made to this truck...so little money, so little time! I appreciate all of the collective wisdom and experience on this website, almost unreal! I already did the tailgate theft mod, at least with the washers. The company I work for actually makes a tailgate lock so I'll be ordering one of those real soon.

Truth is, I haven't been wheeling much at all in the last few years. Ironically I bought a trailer to haul the Jeep around and that's when I stopped offroading. That, combined with the inability to easily haul my kids around, is why I didn't have "too" many regrets about trading in the Rubi. There aren't too many vehicles that are more fun than a lifted Jeep with lockers, but I will get another one when Jeep comes out with a diesel Wrangler. At least that's what I keep telling myself...

I think the Taco is one of those vehicles that is just about "perfect." It was never on my radar screen until I started looking for the Jeep's replacement. But it suits every one of my needs spot on. Where I live, most pickup owners drive one of the "big 3" full size pickups. I am glad I didn't get one of those (no offense to anyone who has one, heck, my father in law has 4 of them!).

Yellow wire mod? Haven't seen that one yet, but that sounds worthwhile. I had to mod the Rubi to get the lockers to work in both lo and hi, as well as be able to turn them on and off independently. Hopefully the yellow wire mod isn't any more complicated than that, because I am electronically challenged!

Anyway look forward to learning alot here. This seems like a great group of people and again, I am thankful for all the years of hard work and experience posted - for free! - on this site.

Welcome! Even tho you say you are done with wheeling, these Tacoma longbeds go just fine off road. Mine was the Sport package.

    Welcome!!

Firstly, good looking truck. Can't wait to see it built up a little bit.

Secondly, you can wheel with a DCLB. I do. Don't let anyone say you can't. You'll. Need a little bit of armor, but it can be done.

Having traction control (limited slip) in low range is a big help for getting to (or out of) places! The 4-Lo-Trac mod is super easy it is reported here... I have the Off Road 4WD, so it doesn't apply (I have the A-TRAC)... but for ALL the other '09 + 4WDs it is a BIG improvement to have.

    Have a great time!

The Jeep has the trail advantage the taco is better towing and on the road... I have both and use them appropriately:D
