Trimming Stock fenders...

Yay? or Nay?

I dont want to buy aftermarket fenders due to the fact I wont be doing any desert driving. Mostly tight trails with trees, rocks, people, animals, w/e gets in my way. I dont want to ruin nice fiberglass fenders and I would like too keep my stock ones. I already removed the fender flares and decided to bed line the stock ones to have the holes filled and trim them to allow my tires to stuff correctly... Anyone have pictures with this idea?

 

sounds ghetto.... I wouldn't do it, but if you're scratching up you're truck on the trails and don't care, then why not go for it...

 

What size tires are you running? I wheel as often as I can and have never had my fenders be the issue. Atleast not the outside or fender flares.

search n0rth's build. he took off his flares, trimmed everything and put em back on. pm him for details on it. he fits 36's with a 3 inch lift, 1 inch body lift and his cab mount chopped.

 

Oh hell man. Mine comes close but I have yet to chew them up, Have rubbed slightly. However I am running AT's, I hear the duratracs are a bit larger.

If your running after market UCA's your caster could be not right.

 

I have stock UCA's at the moment, looking to get the Icon's, TC, or DSMS soon...

There are a couple that have trimmed their stock fenders flares. I removed the stock flares and trimmed the fender itself, had a bed liner material put over it. Come to find out, about a month ago that under that bed liner material, rust was forming and bad so I replaced all of the fenders. I now plan on doing something similar to what north and relentless have done with my fenders. I need to trim enough to clear 37's for the trail, 35's for DD.

Ahh, well rust is no good.... Guess I'm kinda stuck now. I broke a few brackets off on my fender flares so i might need to buy a new set for those. Not sure which way I should go now

 

i took my fender flares off and left the holes exposed. i also trimmed the front fenders down by the cab mount. u can look at my build page to see how it looks - not sure what page it's on. i dont have time to pull up the pics now but will get to it tonight.

 

Question for those of you that cut the fenders and flares. Does mud and other stuff now get stuck in between since the flare no longer wraps around the fender edge? And maybe clips dont last as long as they are now exposed? Ive seen a bunch of pictures but never a shot pointing upwards just trying to wrap my head around doing it on my truck. Cutting the bottom rear most part of front fender (near cab mount) looks to be a pain as well?

 

Yes mud and debris will gather in that open space given you dont rig something to keep shit from getting in there.
