I have seen everyone changing out the gauge lights and the map/dome lights and ive seen the cupholder LEDs. i have the stock orange lights and am not changing them. has anyone added a small LED accent that shines down to the shifter and cupholders???

I thought about the same thing. My company car has led accents and I love them.

It would be really cool if their was a system similar to ford's where you can change the color.

My ford has 4 led accents and cup holder lights.

I put LEDs in the overhead console. I was inspired by my Wife's Passat. The LEDs shine down and illuminate the cupholder area. I wired them to come on when the headlights are on.

That looks great! Are they operated by a independant switch? Where did you tap in for power?
    Thanks

That's awesome! My ex-wife's Acura had the same thing, very subtle but a classy touch. Nice job!

    Thanks for the comments.

Do this at your own risk. This mod requires simple soldering and insulating your electrical work from shorts.

In the overhead console you can tap into both 12 volts and ground. In the harness connector to the temp/compass tap into the GREEN wire for 12 volts and the WHITE w/ BLACK stripe wire for ground. The GREEN wire is the signal that the temp/compass display gets when the headlights are on for dimming the temp/compass display.

The circuit is 12 volts thru a 470 ohm resistor to the (+) of LED 1, then (-) of LED 1 to (+) of LED 2, and then (-) of LED 2 to ground. See the attached circuit diagram.

I got the LEDs from superbrightleds.com. The RL5-O5015 5mm LEDs match the factory orange dash. You can pick almost any color you want. I aslo got the panel mount bezels (LED holders) from them too. The resistor and wire came from allelectronics.com. Get the 1/2 watt resistors. I used 24 gauge hook-up wire.

The overhead console is simple to remove. There is a screw in the sunglass holder to remove and the grab the front near the windshield and pull down (two spring clips will disengage). Be careful drilling the holes for the LEDs!

    And that was a 470 ohm 1/2 w resistor?

I did it to mine, but burned up the resistor for the cupholder behind the shifter. (wrong size resistor) -- I have soft white LEDs in my armrest compartment that are nice.

i used some 5mm led's to spice up my gauges. using those i can put them anywhere and use any color combo, even slow rainbow which i have for my odometer. i also put a slow rainbow in my shifter light and it looks wicked

I'd say do it to mine but I just re-did all my LEDs. Post up some pics when you do it though.
