You may also want to change out your muffler bearing and have your catastrophic converter calibrated. The two biggest money makers at a dealer are selling used cars and service. My wife's Lexus was MD State inspected and two days later the Lexus dealer told her she needed front brakes for a low low price of 600. Yea right.

We have a local Chrysler dealer pulling the same stunts - they always come back to you with this long list of things that need to be done or else the whole vehicle will explode or something. It really ticks me off that they take advantage of people like that.
Fortunately my local Toyota dealer is not like that. They will show me the official maintenance schedule and make recommendations, but no pressure to get anything done if I don't want to.
I would say try another dealer, even if it is a little out of the way, unless you can DIY.

Was it all written up as brochure?
I took my Camry in a couple of weeks ago and got the same thing. They said I needed a brake, transmission and power steering flush. Timing belt (because it didn't have a sticker saying it had been done, I only have 60,000 miles), injector and tb cleaning and also a front end alignment, (I had new tires and a alignment done the week before). They also said I needed a battery service.
It was all presented to me in a brochure, broken down in what I could do today with cost estaments. I'm guessing they are trying to make up in the service department what they are losing on the showroom floor.

Yea, I had no idea that dealerships would try and burn people like that. Luckily I don't fall for stupid shit, except for that muffler bearing... It made quite the noise. Had it replaced thank god :)

I was just told so many things contrary to common sense and to what actually needs to be done that I will be going somewhere else. THIEVES

i wonder, did the dealership put their recommendation down in writing?

    that would be awesome.
just so you know, if you are at 60k, you should really get to the sparkplugs.

When I took my 09 DCSB for a tranny flush at 60K, the tech told me I needed my brakes done soon b/c the fluid in the reservoir is low, and I also needed to change my cabin filter.

I told him "I'll think about it" knowing that I changed my cabin filter less than 5k ago and less than 8K ago, my brakes were above 65% (I don't remember the measurements, but it was plenty to get me past 100k)

Techs are their to make the dealership money my getting uninformed people scared and worried about their car.

Things you can do yourself with the write ups here on the forum:
    Oil & Oil Filter Change
    Spark Plug
    Air Filter
    Cabin Filter
    Throttle Body Cleaning
    MAF cleaning
    Diff Fluids
    Transfer Case
    Lube Drive Shaft
6 speed manual tranny drain and fill
Injector cleaning (Pour a bottle of Chevron w/Techron injector cleaner into your tank at next fill up)

Most of it can be found here:
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/te...nance-2nd-gen-30-000-60-000-90-000-miles.html

Other ones you'll have to search, but they're here. That's pretty much everything you need to get your truck back into shape. It's just a days worth of work and about $200 in parts.

To put it in perspective, at the dealership they charge $200+ for EACH of the following:
    -Spark Plug change
    -Tranny Service

It's $100+ for each of the following:
    -Diff fluid change
    -Injector cleaning

    It's $80+ for:
    -Changing cabin filter
(Seriously, its $80+ to change that filter behind your glove box. Buy it from Amazon.com for $7 versus the $30 they charge for the filter at the dealership)

I'm really surprised at you Jason.

The Kernerbily pins are much more important.

    How could you forget those??

Seeing how there are two Toyota techs in here , is there any way to lower the " threshold " at which the VSC decides to engage by accessing the skid control ecu ?

I know about the recalibration , but was wondering if you can modify the " threshold value " similar to when the VSC is turned off by the driver bit lurks at a lower sensitivity
