So it all started when i traded in my 2006 Audi A3


and my 2001 Subaru Forester


for a 2005 Tacoma TRD Offroad with 62k on the clock.

 

Added another DIY mod. The AUX DIY mod.



Sounds great! and cost about 8 bucks.

 

Just did the "Flap Chop" mod.

Went to take off my mud flaps and found this under them:



basically paint has been scraped off under all 4 corners. So instead i just chopped em.



End result:

is the aux mod you did on a 6 disc changer?

 

I got the car at CARMAX and used their 30 day warranty to get it done. Had the Carmax Toyota dealership manager drive the car over speed bumps and he confirmed it needed to be done.

Youll need:
•Basically buy yourself your favorite 6 pack. Make sure its really cold. (crucial)
•14-16 gauge wire (three colors - 6 bucks are radio shack)
•Soldering iron with clean/sharp tip
•Phillips driver (magnetic would be nice)
•standard headphone jacks (4 bucks at radio shack)
•clean, large work area

1. Take out radio. (make sure you take out all cd's out of the player)
2. Start taking it appart trying to keep each pannel separate and laying in order. Luckily all the screws are the same size. Just dont loose any.
3. once all the metal panels are off and you undo the ribbons, you will be left with just the cd changer. Thats where you find the Lch and Rch connections.
4. Solder and route your wires. (you can check my DIY picture to see how i wired it and where the ground is)
5. Put the radio back together and run the wire to the headphone jack and install in either on the dash or an empty trim piece.
6. Enjoy remainder of beers while making a blank CD for your new cheep AUX.

Once you start doing it, you'll realize its not that hard. Just open the DIY in the mod section. Even though he skips around alot, once everything is appart, it should be easy to follow his steps.

 

Well got it stuck for the first time. Its seriously time for some new tires!

Took an hour and half to get out...used my rubber floor mats and sticks and branches to get it out of there. Next time ill be more prepared for unexpected mud holes.

wow that mud got your 4x4 stuck? I guess that's the difference aftermarket tires can provide.

Yea the truck sat on the front skid plate and the rugged fails turned into slicks.

And made some SUPER EASY + CHEAP Jack mounts. Still need to paint them.

Basically i used a retired Yakima mountain bike front wheel holder ($30 bucks on ebay):


Used the actual holder to make the two strips. Used the hardware and wingnuts to hold items on and used the pipe attachment brackets to hold the hatchet and small shovel. Plus everything gets locked to my newly installed d-rings in the bed and gets covered by my tonneau cover.

It was a beautiful fall day outside today so i took a couple hours and fitted a 50 cal Ammo-Box to finish off "Project Recovery"

Picked one up from eBay for 16 bucks. Cleaned it up with some paint thinner to get the markings and glue off of it.



Here it is installed to the rails:



Inside I fit:
•20' Tow Rope
•2 3/4" Shackles
•Pair of leather gloves
•2 HD Ratcheting Straps
•4 Bungie Cords

Thinking about doing another one on the other side maybe with on board air..
And adding a lock with rubber around it so it doesn't clank over bumps/rocks.

Missed an offroad trip cause of a bad cold.

On a lighter note though, finally finished the cursed Creeper Breather install...



Since winter is creeping up quick, next step is Tire Shoppin!
Looking at an aggressive A/T or a M/T tire in 265/75/16. Should be fun.
