They squeeled ever so faintly this past weekend...

I had new pads installed this morning at Toyota... 32,028 miles/ almost 2 years old... $70 parts/ $200 labor :eek::eek:

My excuse for spending there is that the truck is still under warranty and they take credit cards :cool:

They re-surfaced the rotors as a normal part of the job.

Mine seem to squeal when going in reverse out of the driveway sometimes. Really loud too.

But it's only when the truck has been sitting over night.

    Never squealed when stopping though.

I have noticed here that faily new (like 2009-2011) GM trucks/suvs already have squeaky brakes....how on earth does that happen so early on?

This poll is closed, and I find it amazing the majority is going 90,000 miles or more on the original front brake pads... do these people live in Texas or Kansas where there are no hills or curves and cost to stops? All three of my Tacomas didn't get over 40,000 miles on them...

Honestly, I think the driving aids are what eat up your pads. The members up here with newer trucks aren't making it past 30k miles. My 2007 didn't need pads until 70k miles. I also live near Boston and commute in stop and go traffic daily.

    - Billstein 5100's all around with OME 885 coil springs. - K&N Air Filter - HID Headlights & Fogs - Kenwood Stereo & Infinity Speakers - CB Radio, - Fog On Anytime mod - Anti Tailgate theft mod. More comming...
114K & what I believe to still be the OEM brakes.

I bought the truck used with 24k miles with what I assume were original brakes.

Still braking great but I've heard them squeal just a little bit on cold mornings so I might need to change them soon.

I don't drive like an old lady but I am not an idiot like most people who accelerate to a red light, or tail gate people in rush hour traffic and have to brake hard often.

I'm at 94k. Original pads. I drove in Ohio for the first half, Virginia for the second. I drive hard, occasionally tow and drive through the mountains. Manual trans is the reason for long brake life. Auto has less engine braking.

162000 miles and original pads. Mostly highway miles. No squeal, no wear indicator yet. Replacing today.

Metalic oem $134 or ceramic $56? The factory metalic worth the cost.

All Tacomas since 2009 have the 'driving aids'. I also owned a 2005 and a 2001 Tacoma... never got more than 40,000 miles before the pads needed replacing... No, I don't drive with my left foot on the brake pedal.

I wonder if California brake pads are asbestos-free and thus don't last as long??? LOL The enviro nazis already are trying to take the dinosaur juice out of gasoline and replace it with corn oil (ethanol) so we have gasoline that also doesn't last as long (fewer MPGs)!

I changed my original pads and rotors at 192,xxx km (about 120,000 mi). 2009 4x4 automatic. They were not quite at the squeal bar. I replaced then with OEM parts.

I'm at 70,000 miles and still on original pads and rotors, and still have plenty of pad left. And fyi, you'd be hard pressed to find an "enviro nazi" who condones the use of ethanol in gasoline. Ethanol production is extremely harmful to the environment, and it was an initiative started in the Bush admin to become more energy independent. And also fyi, asbestos is harmful to people when the dust is breathed in, doesnt hurt plants, water, soil, etc. (it is a naturally occuring mineral after all). Maybe the random deer standing beside a superhighway all day might get a cough every once in a while, but thats about it. People are more exposed than 99% of animals.
