Hey Everyone - really glad I found you!! I hadn't decided on what to trade my 99 Dakota on when I ran across this site and registered. After reading some posts here and checking out the competition I made the leap. My second Toy (1st was 1988 4X4) but I'm a BIG guy and the Taco will fit me much better. The dealer didn't have what I wanted but expecting it to arrive on Monday. As part of the deal I had a TRD Performance Exhaust & Seat Covers thrown in. Hoping the TRD exhaust system really does increase horsepower & makes it sound nice & mellow - but honestly wondering if I should have gone for another option. Any insight would be appreciated.

As part of the deal? Did the dealer give you a ultimatium? Get these 2 options or no go?? When I bought my Taco, I knew what I wanted and I told the dealer.. Get me this or I leave.. he couldnt get me what I wanted because the truck had 2 more options I didnt want to pay.. So he threw them in for free.

    Hey Rigged4Ride,

Heck no!! After we had agreed on the price of my new Taco - I told the dealer that I would make the deal if he threw in a couple of options, and he did. I had already decided on 4 possibilities but liked these the best. I'm just wondering if the TRD exhaust is as good as it sounds.

Congrats on the new Taco 07 Sport, I just puchased the 05 Double Cab TRD Sport. I searched all over for this truck at the right price, I found mine in Columbus Ohio, about 2 hours away from home. Had I purchased new I would have added those 2 options, very smart move on your part.

    Well congratts again

    Adam

    hey axman
what was the deal with the dealer?

I'm looking at the trd off-rd edition, just seeing what you guys are paying for it. I am so torn on between the Frontier Nismo and the Tacome off-rd edition!

I dont have anything to trade so, I want to put a big down on it.

    Welcome to TW!

I am in the same boat as Rigged4Ride. I walked in, told them exactly what I wanted, and they didn't have it. They did have what I wanted, but with a bunch of other stuff thrown in. I told them no thanks, and they said 'what if we gave it to you for the same price?' They ended up taking a little over $4k off the sticker. Now I have the truck I wanted, plus some. :D

    Hey LinkFeeney,

After the salesman came back to me the 2nd time with his offer on what he would give me for a trade in I told him we could probably reach a deal if he threw in the TRD performance exhaust system and the seat covers and dropped his price $500 more. He came back agreeing to throw in the items and split the difference with me on the cash. I think I got a pretty decent deal considering he was originally offering me $4K for my truck and he ended up giving me over $5,600 for it not counting the options.

None currently, but I would like a better sounding exhaust and perhaps a cold air pack and some color coded step bars
Axman, welcome to the TW. Sounds like you did you homework. I don't know anyone who has the TRD exhaust system. One of my friends has a Borla stainless perf system on his 04, supercharged V6. It sounds OK,as compared to stock but not overly throaty. Lots of Taco trucks here in Mass. Lots of upgrades but exhausts don't seem to be amoung them.
It will be interesting to hear your report on the quality of the sound.

I got my new Taco today and what a nice truck! The TRD exhaust is nice but not too loud and I had them put my old (really new) exhaust in the bed - I'll try to sell it. I also ordered a K&N air intake so hoping to increase HP & mileage a little.

For some reason I think I am a magnet in a new truck for deer. I didn't even have 1,000 on my new Dakota when a big buck - racing across an open field the first day of doe season - ran right into the side of my truck and almost killed himself. He did over $700 damage. This evening about 2 miles from my home 2 deer ran right across in front of me. If I hadn't noticed them when I did I would have creamed them for sure. Don't even have 20 miles on my truck... that would have ruined the day!

Sounds like you made out very well... Congrats!! I actually have fun dealing on vehicles but it really pays to do some homework (internet helps) and I always visit a small dealer where I know I probably won't buy anything just to get an estimate on my vehicle - test drive the competition and have some numbers for the dealer where I plan to buy.

Watch our for those deer! That would have sucked... 2 miles on a truck and the front redecorated by a deer!
