So I was soloing a Piper Warrior over the eastern shore yesterday and I was looking at the pictures that my uncle took of me and I found this one.

I was in the pattern at Cambridge and judging by the amount of flaps in it looks like I'm on final. So I was about 300ft off the ground and if one of those birds had hit me I was a goner (I'm no Chesley B. Sully Sullenberger III).

You MD'ers park backwards in the T-hangers! The ones in the background are the same way.
If we did that (Well in MT where I'm from), the heavier and wet snow would weigh the empennage down and lift the front off the ground.

Greatest way to get people to never fly again.

If a single engine Cessna loses power, the descent rate is ~500 Feet per minute. So at 6000 feet above the ground, you will have 12 minutes to find a runway (hopefully), road, or my personal favorite: a golf course. Nothing like 18 runways to choose from when the prop stops!

Same situation with a Boeing 737 (Jet): descent rate with no thrust (dual turbine flame-out) is ~2500 Feet per minute. So now you only have 2 minutes and 24 seconds to find a runway, road or golf course. Oh yea, your in NYC. Hello Hudson.

    Just something to ponder!:D

Very true and a very good point. Single engine planes are very safe in kept in annual and maintenance and the pilots have their flight reviews. For the record, I never do that with anyone that isn't comfortable with flying.
