I had an 06 access cab from 2006 up until 6 months ago. At first when I bought it, i loved it and thought it looked better than the double cab. After a few months, I soon realized that it wasnt very practical. Groceries, luggage, friends, everything was such a pain to get in and out. Especially in parking lots and apts where the spaces are small and its almost impossible to get the rear door open and load and unload stuff.. its a triangle trap! lol I now have a double cab and holy crap does it make life easier.. plus, ive actually come to like the looks of the DC more than the access cabs.

I too prefer the looks of an AC. But I have an 8 year old grandson that I'm raising. There's no way I would have him ride in the back of an AC for extended periods. Plus, he (and your daughter) won't be 8 forever and are about to grow like weeds. I recommend that you get the DC, I'm sure that after a few months you'll regret an AC.

I agree with the child issue and a DC. However the 6ft bed on the AC is really nice. A DC with a 6 ft bed would really take up my garage space. I have a 12yo son and so far there are no issues. My Tacoma is a second vehicle. Used to be the third vehicle until the family van blew up.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I would normally say Access cab but since you got a 8 y/o better go with a Double cab, soon she is going to be a teenager and will probably give you hell about having to sit in the back of a AC! Personally I would go with a DCLB just for the extra hauling space and smooter ride if I was you.

I traded an 05 AC for an 09 DB for that reason.

Now, my son is 16 and I have found that I don't actually like him that much. :p

So, I got a 12 AC. I like it better, and it's better for the dogs - they don't flop around so much.

I'm getting a DC, Long Bed, 4x4, Sport in a few months. Not enough room in a AC.

My 2 cents..... i just moved up to a 2012 DCSB from a 13 yr old Ford Ranger extended cab. I wish they had double cabs back then when my kids were still at home, what a difference! It is so much easier getting things in and out of the DC. As for the short bed, I was a bit concerned with this after having a 6 ft bed for so long. However, I find the Tacoma bed is wider and deeper than my Ranger, and I have been able to get as much yard debris into it as with my old truck. I bought the bed extender, so if I need an extra 18 inches or so, I have that option, but I haven't even needed to use it yet (it has only been a month). The long bed would take up a lot of garage space.

I love my access cab but if my kids were still home and young I would never have it, I would have a double cab. Having said that, I like the access cab much better and think it looks far better than the double cab. You should get the double cab for now.

I love my 5 lug Access Cab. I spend 95% driving by myself and it is great with me and one other but it is a real pain in the you know what to deal with a car seat for my granddaughter.

The LATCH system is on the driver side and I am too large to fit in the drivers seat with her in the truck. The seat doesn't have room to go back. My 5 foot wife has to drive while I sit in the passenger seat.

If you are even remotely considering another child get the double cab.
