Front brake pad shims/antisquel, Do I need them

    Vent visors, backup lights, the loadhandler!
    Replacing my front pads '07 double cab 4x4 with ATE premium one ceramic pads. The pads did not come with any sort of anti squeal or shim like the two that came on the originals, just the anti squeal paste.
    ATE pad has a metal backing plate on it. Do you think I need to add the anti-squeal and shim or just go without.

    just reuse the metal backplate and pop it back in. you don't really need anti squeal.

    FYI, continental ATE emailed me with a reply stating their pads are to be used with any shims and backing plates that are currently being used, if worn replace. So off with the pads and on with the backing plates!

    You can do a few different things....

    Clean up the old shims and use them with the new pads
    or
    Use the new pads with the paste
    or
    Use both the shims & the paste

    I've done a little bit of all 3 of those on various vehicles. It just depends.....

    The paste is just that....paste... and it doesn't hurt anything by putting it on. It's just a buffer and eventually flattens out anyway.

    You can try just using the new pads & the paste and if you start to get squeeling, then take the pads off again and use the shims. If you get squeels with the shims, take them all off and use the shims & paste. Easy Peasy....

    My hawks came with some plates attached. I tossed the oem ones but swaped the wear squealers. There is no noise on my truck brakes as a result.

    Front Bush Guard with 100 Watt Driving Lights, Color Match Tonel Cover. Cold Air Intake By True Flow,added an additional 26 HP.
    My advice is simply this.....go to AutoZone and purchase their DuraMax Pads.
    There are 100 percent ceramic and come with the brake hardware at no additional cost. Be prepared to spend between 50 to 60 bucks. They will last a long, long, time.
