its todays gold box deal - $159

thats the one reason why i want a gps - phones are too unreliable. and my handheld unit cant keep up with the vehicle - if you try to scroll around to see where a road goes etc the screen takes forever to regenerate and it makes it impossible to find your way around. and roads only show up on the screen when you're zoomed into 0.8 miles or less.

i thought that my hand held would work for both but it doesn't. i have a 60csx and its great for hiking but useless when driving.

is it easy to read and operate? i'm so-so with technology (shut up Colton!) and have little patience for things like that....

hmm..... I don't think mine would show trail maps but it should still work with the google earth satilite maps since it does link with GPS.. I'll have to find a place with no cell signal one day and check it out. I think so cause it still follows me on the map when I'm driving through valleys with no cell signal.

I already tried it out. It doesn't work. It downloads the maps as it needs it. When you don't have cell signal, it can't update the maps so all you have is a GPS location but no map to put it on. I need to look to see if there is a way to cache the maps ahead of time.

The problem is that most off road trails aren't part of the route to the destination. I'm sure there is a way to cache the maps so you have them.

You could do that, but it is really nice to have your location pinpointed on the map when your looking at.

    Good...uh...afternoon, gay-roj.

This is called a map. It is a big, papery, thingy available from BLM, USFS, etc. It works without batteries or signals. Which is nice. :cookiemonster:
