    Interesting...

I compared reg cab 5lug and access cab prerunner 6lug.... Its weird that DCLB 4x4 would have less payload, maybe because of the added weight of 4x4 and DC cab...

It REALLY does make a difference. I was driving a buick roadmaster that I loved but the a/c went out... then the water pump started leaking... then a FJ ran a stop and hit the driver side... then two days later a Ford F350 dually backed up and the trailer hitch ripped the passager side a new one... BUT when the cruise control went out I could not take it anymore. I hated the drive. Every day after that I hated to go to work, I did not want to go anywhere. Now I love the drive again. I look forward to going places and dont mind driving

Same here, just driving from college to home and back to college on some weekends in my Tacoma makes me really happy! I just love being out on the open road on a nice day watching the scenery slip by. I am really looking forward to this summer, dad and I are planning a roadtrip to Alaska in either my Tacoma, or his V6 Access Cab he is wanting to trade his Duramax in on! That is going to be one beautiful drive I know it!

the truck with the highest capacity is the reg cab Prerunner. and that pretty much has the exact same suspension and frame as a DCLB (besides the length) plus, the I4 is lighter as well. so yeah pretty much if you look at all the 6 lugs they start off from there working down when you add stuff like, cab, drive train, etc

V6! The fout bangers with a lift and tires dont get any better gas than a v6. The v6 has the more guts that helps in the end.

I love my 4.0 bur only if it were a 2pre-runner would I go for the 2.7 because I would probly turbo it but I feel that I need a V6 with 4wd and i don't have another tow vehicle for my can and moto bike.

if you're going to be doing any interstate driving at all, get the 6. i had a 2010 access cab with the 4 manual and it was terrible... any wind at all on the interstate and it was NO FUN AT ALL driving at 65mph+. i have since made a costly upgrade to a 2012 in large part for this reason.

I enjoyed my 09 2.7L access cab 4x4, and I would consider getting another new one BUT its too close in price to the V6 Access cab! Id love to use less fuel but a 4 cylinder truck should cost a few thousand less than the V6, not a few hundred (2012 models)

I agree I have a 99 4cyl also, and same issues with the damn down shifting and not staying in gear long enough to get up to speed. I'll never get a 4banger again. I have no power and get passed by anything and everything on the highway and to top it off I only see 16mpg on a good tank... And 14mpg worst case, it sucks!

My thinking is you can easily save at the pump by driving with a light foot but if you want the power you will have it available on tap whenever you want it. When you have a 4cyl you are stuck with it and there is nothing for you to do but be SLOW. IMO, V6 is the only way to go unless you are cash strapped and in desperate need of a tacoma. I WILL be getting a V6 Access 4x4 TRD with tow.

That was my reasoning. I naturally drive for mileage and my hot rodding days are much in the past. It works too, just look at my sig, that 20.2 avg started on the first tank after Thanksgiving, meaning all of it was under 50F, most of it was under 35F, and all of it was on winter formulated fuel. EPA says I should get 16. Ha!

I figured I'd save 10-15% fuel if I opted for a 2.7L 4x4. That would save me about $15/month on average.

After three years of 109 hp and six years of 127 hp before that, and with the possibility of towing trailers and whatnot, I was ready for the six. Actually its torque has already saved my truck from getting t-boned once from an idiot in a minivan not lawfully obeying a stop sign.

Nice! Drive like grandma to save at the pump and haul ass when you need to or want to, best reason to go with the V6. I'm sure all the 4 bangers out there wish they would have thought of this before they pulled the trigger on a 4cyl tacoma.

Sometimes I wish I had a V6, but as soon as the warranty is up, my four banger is likely going to get the URD supercharger that boosts it up to 211hp, and the stock V6 is only like 236hp if I remember right.

I have a 4 cylinder double cab and it's served me perfectly, towing up to 3100 lbs. When I'm not towing I get great mileage. Only downside to the 4 cylinder is that they say it needs a synthetic oil change every 5k miles instead of every 10k. that extra cost adds up over the life of the truck.
