I'm new to fj's...thinking about getting one. Have they had a redesign yet since they came out and if so what did they change.? Are there certain years to stay away from?

They redesigned for 2010 with the newer engine, a new set of color choices and a few interior changes. Pretty minor IMO.

Avoid 2007 model years. They had weak rear ends. Everything else is pretty darn good. I loved my 08 while I had it. Just hated the gas mileage.

Thanks...good info. Is it true the automatics use a stick shift for engaging 4wd and the manual transmission has a elect switch?

I can't say from experience but a lot of the "veterened" FJ owners from the blue room have said good things about them.

There's a thread on the blue room that discusses all the different options out there i.e. Warn, Viper, Smittybuilt, Titan, Recon. I'll see if i can find the link

    http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forums/4x4-off-road-tech/50817-titan-winches.html

    http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/foru...elp-6000lb-9000lb-warn-ramsey-superwinch.html

are just a few of them.

to my knowledge, both AT & MT have a manual transfer case.

They both have a manual select on the transfer case.

HOWEVER - manual transmission FJs are full time 4WD. All the transfer case selector does is switch between hi and low range. Hence, the manual transmission FJs get worse gas mileage than the automatics.

The transfer case in the automatic has all three options (2HI, 4HI, 4LO)
