Need a CA spec catalytic coverter for AZ

As of yesterday, my CEL came on and the code is for catalytic inefficiency. I live in Arizona and the truck is apparantly a CA spec version. I called the Arizona smog hotline and they said I have to have CA spec catalytic converter installed to pass the test since it came from CA. How can they tell the difference? It's just an OBD test, they don't do the tailpipe emissions on OBD II vehicles. I looked online but all the cats I look for are only 49 state legal. Where do I get a CA spec cat?

Wow...cali has to be so special that they have their own catalytic converters?

I always thought the Emisions testing BS was just another way for them to pry money off you...

For some reason CA thinks they can be different than the rest and impose crazy laws; We have retarded emissions laws making most of the cats on the market illegal for street use here. Shit you can't even buy a decently priced generator here anymore.

Long as your tech doesn't check numbers, your cat will pass emissions..CA or not.

 

More than likely, if the cat fits it will pass. I doubt they will check to make sure it is made for that vehicle

the landscaping company i used to work for would buy all their equipment in nevada cause the ca versions were ridicilously choked down for emissions and never ran right

anyhow .... im with everyone else ... just throw a cat on and call it good ... should pass no problem .... before ca had the crazy cat law i had a 91 civic and had to get a new cat, passed smog twice no problem and it was a generic one
