Warranty About To Expire....Please Help.....

I only have about 2000 miles before my bumper to bumper warranty expires. I'm going to do an inspection this weekend to see if I need to get anything repaired or replaced.

Is there anything to pay special attention to that routinely goes bad on this trucks? Anything y'all recommend I check when I do my inspection?

Consider getting a quote for extended warranty before your 36k runs out.
There are a few threads on here about discounted pricing from dealers across the country.

Also, I might be paranoid, but I would have my truck inspected by a qualified mechanic other than one working for a Toyota dealership. They have no incentive to be honest with you. If they see something that will fail in the next 5,000 miles and they don't tell you now it will be more $$$ later for the same job.

Get your own mechanic or trusted shop to look at it. They get paid for their time and are in a better position to be honest with you about what is about to fail.

 

If your not experiencing any issues and there's no visible oil leaks I'd say your good to go.

My truck had a 60,000 mile extended warranty on it that the previous owner bought when he bought the truck new. He said he never used it and I never did either.

101k miles now and the only problem I've had was the factory battery went kaput at 45k miles. (knock on wood haha)

I think extended warranties are a waste of money, especially on a toyota...that's just my opinion.

 

I'm not getting an extended warranty and that wasn't the question. Anyone else know anything in particular I should check before my warranty runs out?

 

Maybe the rear leaf spring TSB.

Other than that, if nothing is broken..I wouldn't worry about it. The warranty is only there to cover "broken" stuff.

 

They will not replace anything that is not broken, so even if you find something that others had problems with, it will not help much. Your idea is good though. Check the waterpump to make sure it is not leaking, check under the truck for oil leaks, even if it is just sweating. Note any weird noises that you don't like that were not there when the truck was new. If you can give the dealer a legitemate list of items (limit to only a few, otherwise they will know you are just bullshitting) that you are really concerned about, they will have it on record, so if something breaks soon after the warranty expired you can tell them "I told you so". Other than that there is not much you can do to let them do preventative maintenance under warranty.

It is a Toyota though, so you should be fine (too bad it is not a 1st gen; you would have had no concerns then )

 

I'm not trying to get them to fix things that aren't broken. I just want to make sure I check everything to make sure nothing is broke. Thanks for the help so far!

You have to remember, just because you think something may be about ready to break, that does not mean toyota will replace it. They will more than likely only replace it if its broken

 

My 05 Taco Double Cab 4x4 has really started bottoming out bad when I hit a bump. I've had air bags installed and some really good shocks but neither has helped. I called my local dealer in Evansville IN but was told the leaf spring upgrade is no longer covered on my 05 and if I wanted it to be prepared to spend $2600. Is this true? I just noticed TSB -0359-10 from December 21 2010 and wondered if I talk to the Manager or to Toyota direct if I might be successful. From what I see from other members the leaf spring upgrade is about the only other option to me. Thanks for you help and Happy Thanksgiving!

 

OP, if you're still reading this thread I would suggest taking the truck to an independent shop and have them check it out and see if there is anything about to go. Toyota isn't going to volunteer to tear into your truck without a specific complaint.

Off the top of my head: check for oil seepage at the passenger side of the timing cover, consider the leaf spring TSB if you haul, and I think that's about it. The 09s were pretty refined compared to the earlier ones.

 

I bought a Toyota so that I didn't have to worry about a warranty.......

Also my 09 developed a rattle/clunk in the steering, do a search for Intermediate shaft TSB

 

2600 ???? No fukin way you can buy a very nice set of aftermarket springs for a lot less than half of that!

 

I had an 06 lifted w / 33s bought the extended warranty and it ran out, basically wasted my money b/c nothing went wrong. Bought my 2011 new, paid $250 for the 125k mile B2B warranty (had no intentions of buying it at all) still think I overpaid. They give the option of extended warranty b/c they don't lose money on it lol. If you haven't had problems it's fine, if you think you did something you still have a 60k mile power train.
