Rear differential ...exploded? Help?!

What sounds like BS? The whole dif drop thing?

 

Yes, specifically stating that because you didn't have a diff drop, your rear diff imploded. That's BS, because the diff drops only effect the front diff... .

 

Well, either way my diff is fucked.. what is the tacoma warranty for? isnt it like 50,000 miles?

 

On that part, it should fall under the 5 year / 60k.

Anything non-power-train/etc (like dash, electronics, etc) fall under the 3 year / 36k.

 

The diff drop is for your front diff not your rear.

 

well.. I am just doing as im told by my dad and bringing it to four wheel parts, so we will see how it goes..

Whatever dude, it just seemed odd to me that you're letting your father tell you how to get your truck fixed - assuming it's your truck, you pay for it... take his advice under consideration, he is still your father - but it's not like his word is law here.

I don't see what 4WP did wrong here. If the diff blew, take it to the stealership if it's still under warranty. If it's not still under warranty, then I can understand why he'd want to go after 4WP, as you have no other recourse.

 

Some of the questions being asked throw some doubt on that. In any event, hope you get it fixed up ok. But recognize Toyota may give you a hard time about warranty coverage, or deny warranty coverage, because of mods and upsized tires. And they would win that under Magnusson-Moss.

Street queen it all you want, but the minute you touch dirt and start to get on it, you either need to be a wrench spinner or have a healthy money tree and the willingness to use it.

Just because I didn't know all about my differential, and asked questions, to get INFORMED on the subject, so I could fix my truck, and people jump on me and try and give their smart ass remarks? I thought that these forums were to help people and socialize about whats going on?

Thank you. I have decided to go with a new ARB locker ( which I've decided to do so I can have on board air as well)

 

It's not directed at you, it's just a general statement. We have a lot of members here who are new to the offroading game and sometimes it helps them to have the potential hazards of offroading highlighted.

You're on the right track; it sucks but breakages like this are part of the game and can be expensive. Swapping axles and putting in an ARB is going to be more expensive than repairing your existing TRD E-locker differential, but the 8.4'' and ARB will be a stronger unit.

My point is, modding makes it damn near impossible to get warranty coverage. Thus, if you're ever intending to use said warranty coverage, don't mod, street or otherwise. And if you DO mod, you don't get to complain if there's a failure and ToMoCo denies warranty coverage, especially on something like this.

No disrespect to the OP. As a general statement, if you're not familiar with drivetrains and how they work, it's not a good idea to muck with things that affect their operation (lifts, tire size, etc.).

The fact that these e-locked trucks need entirely new rear axles to really be used as intended is a source of constant face-rubbing for me. There really isn't an easy solution.

 

Yeah, i know. I never said it wasnt? shit i never even complained about it breaking, and never complained about it needing to be fixed, i know what i do to my truck, and its time to get it fixed, and i called on TW for some information, and i got it.
