Great write up bro. The part I liked best was discovering I found another brother!!! I knew this when I got to the bottom of the post and found Ron Paul 2012. Another with the ability to critically think and have a sound sense of liberty. I salute you.:D

the wet fire is nice you can shave a little bit in a bowl of water strike your steel and it will burn while it floats i have a bunch of that crap it's cheap and when it's really wet and cold if your not dressed right it could be your ass if you can't get a fire going.

i have a lot of fire starting gear lol. tinfoil to build a fire on snow and to safely direct the heat into your bivy or lean to is nice and light weight as well. and once you have fire in the cold weather you can make a fire bed burry coals over where your sleeping bag or shelter is then the grounds going to be warm that combined with the dead air space found in dry leaves and pine needles actually makes for a pretty warm bed :) it's the deciding factor and the first thing priority i would have in the cold weather.

that tube fire steel is the largest steel i have ever seen it has the diameter of a cigar lol i'm not sure how many fires you could get out of that puppy but, it would be in the thousands to be conservative well worth the 50 bucks for cheaper steels the amagedon gobspark model is unbeatable imo.

Something else I don't think people think of is having a decent amount of cash on hand. There is a good chance that in a SHTF situation banks and atms could close down to avoid bank runs, but at least at first stores and people are most likely still going to accept cash in exchange for goods. I would also suggest buying some 1964 and earlier quarters and dimes. They are 90% silver, so even if paper money becomes worthless you will have something that actually has real value in it. I mean unless that is the human race just dumps 5,000 years of history and stops putting value in gold and silver. Even if there is a financial collapse people are still going to do business with each other.

nice idea a couple hundred dollars in cash tucked away in the bag is a great idea. now i jut need a couple hundred dollars hmmm.

seriously that could buy you a tank of gas in a crisis situation or give you some food or real shelter who knows excellent suggestion for urban situations though.

i get lots of comments about how big it is. :D but i love it. i'm kind of a big guy so it's not too bad on me. it's not big and fat like a g-shock. it's pretty slim.

This is a good idea, as well as the cash idea posted a ways up - I just didn't want to call anybody out so people knew they had cash sitting in their trucks. :D

It's on my (long) list of add-ons and mods...

I have also seen gas caps with a lockable compartment in it.

I have a lot of the stuff you guys got in my B.O.B and way more stuff in the truck. I didn't see it mentioned but I've got quite a bit of advil and some percocets and antibiotics in mine. Also have a shit ton of TP in my B.O.B.

I kinda figure my BOB has most of the essentials that I'd need if I was with my truck or if I only had enough time to grab the bag and ditch everything else. I figure I'll have time to get more crap out of the truck but I won't plan on it. Mostly this is just good stuff to have for weather, stuck, wheeling, emergency, zombies, WROL etc...

Also, never made eagle but I was a life scout ans I'm pretty decent with all types of outdoor skills. I still remember knots, lashings, and all the improvised crap you can learn in a survival book.

    Anyway...

top front pocket: couple cheap knives and multi tool, matches, lighters, can opener, flashlight, blistex
bottom front pocket: chem lights, flashlight, batteries, tp, moist towelletes, chapstick, matches, cotton balls, trioxane, duct tape, pens (missing from picture is my head lamp)
side right: first aid, anti biotics, pain killers, matches, TP
    side left: TP, TP, tissues
main: fleece pull over, 2 pair socks, poncho, nylon rain pants, cord, emergency blanket, zip ties, dust masks, flagging, utensils, spam, belt, bottle full of granola bars and powdered potatoes and water purifier tabs, fleece blanket and I missed the MRE but it's in there too

I carry a ton of gloves, knives, flashlights, boots, fire extinguisher, good first aid kit, a couple more MREs etc etc in the truck. Truck is my BOV DD and Wheeler so I have it stocked. Wish I had money to put together a nicer pack with nicer gear but I don't have enough to have multiples of all that nice gear so the nice stuff stays in the truck so I can use it and the stuff in the pack is cheaper but I can leave it and at least I'll have something. I don't see bugging out long term without the truck anyway. Nevada is pretty inhospitable.

Good read and interesting perspective from an out of state LEO after Katrina.
