33"x 9.50 bfg at. Question.

Does anyone have this tire setup and what are the pros and concs of a skinny tire like this. i use this truck daily and barely ever see trails being only 2wd( it holds its on though). Thanks

You sure you're not talking about the 33x10.5-R15?

I like the skinny look myself and they do perform very well, more pressure exerted on the terrain so therefore more traction.

 

yes tire rack carries a 33x9.5x15 my father has them on our 66 bronco but that hasnt seen the road in a while do to no body panals at the moment and i have yet to drive it but he has had no problems so far even with very little mileage

 

and i have the size you mentioned well in 31s and no problem just not sure about 9.5

 

Well they are definitely skinny! Honestly that is too skinny IMO. I would just go for the 10.5's (that is my dream tire actually).

The benefits are better gas mileage, better shallow snow/mud, rock traction.

cons are worse sand/DEEP snow and mud traction.

 

Actually skinny = awesome i run 255-80-17 km3. Which are 33.5x10.2. And there quiet with great clearence an didnt affect gas milage... I have had them side by side with 285-70-17 km2 and they were equal or better in every way compared to the 285s

 

i was thinking also i want to go up in size and if i skinny them up my mpg most likely wont be affected to bad due to less rubber than those 11" and 12" wide tires

 

I had 255/85/16 cooper S/T's for a while and lost 2-3 MPG. They are a true 33" tire, not 32.5 like 285's. They were awesome in everything I did with them but they were out of round and vibrated horribly, so I went the the BFG's.

 

They ride well on highway?

 

You are going to notice a bit of power loss on hills but other than that they should be good. BFG makes a great tire.

 

ya i want bfg a/t and i am over the mudding phase i was in in highschool and relized i had 2wd and dont need to worry to much about tires until a sas. i love the look skinny tires have and they look good on my bronco. just wanted to get some opinions.

 

i will just give it a little more pedal. lol and i think i can get some 4:56 gears for cheap. i think that would be the proper upgraded ratio

 

4.56:1 would be perfect, and yeah pretty cheap for your prerunner.

 

question about that ratio though. wouldn't it give me higher rpm on highway speeds?
or would the tire work that out to close to the 4:10 or 4:11 i have now?

 

It would work out to close to stock with the taller tires. Plus with that gear ratio I bet you'll be able to pull 21 mpg driving easy. I got a max of 19 with my 255's. I can get up to 21 with my current 32" tires.

I know this is an old thread but...

I'm buying 33 9.5 15 today. I think they will work well for what I'm into, not much mud, less than 3 ft of snow, the majority of my off roading being old logging roads and skidder trails.

They worked well for me on and off the road I liked the look. I got a set of 33x 10.5 for free so I slapped those on. Like the look better. Both feel solid though at highway speed.
