The Casio Patchfinder is a great watch....it runs off of solar, has the full compass, baro, and alti!! It is probably half the price of the Sunnto.

I am going to try and snap some pics of my gear in the next few days.....Seriously though I am interested in interesting ideas or inexpensive mods for our trucks to A)accommodate more of our "survival" stuff or B)make our situation more comfortable.

Is there a way to get ore juice out of our bed outlet? I have seen the mod for 400w all the time but I am looking for something more without necessarily buying an additional inverter.

Has anyone looked into these? http://www.autoanything.com/truck-tents/61A3673A0A0.aspx

something i want for my truck is the soft top for the bed. i'm always thinking about being one the move. you can store stuff in it and sleep in it, then, if you need to get up and go, there's nothing to pack up, you can just jump in the cab and go.

correct me if i'm wrong, but, i think with the topper, there's a window into the cab if you NEED the heater, you can use it.

Awesome thread! Occasionally, I have random days where I get out of work early enough to do something. I take advantage of this and head straight to the woods to do some hiking, tracking, or practice any woodsman type skill. To maximize my time, I thought it would be a good idea to be prepared since I dunno when I will get out early.

I keep a small molle pouch that holds all the stuff I need for food procurement, water collection/purification, gear repair, land navigation, and firebuilding stuff so I can cook my lunch on the trail.

Its a good idea to have several fire starters and some backup tinder in a waterproof bag. I have been in cold weather and very wet situations where starting and maintaining a fire was extremely difficult. Your lighter will freeze and it wont work when wet either.

I am a big fan of molle gear coz I like to customize my kit and keep everything organized. Anyone have any reviews for one of these? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SMT-5661301/

I might pickup a cheaper alternative like this one and create my own. http://www.specialforces.com/tactical-gear/accessories2/molle-seat-back-panel

The good thing about molle pouches is they are cheap and durable and you can get something for just about anything you would want to carry. The seat covers would be good to hold some recovery gear for off roading which also makes a good addition to your bug out vehicle kit.

an idea for the lighter getting wet or freezing, duct tape it to some 550 cord and wear it like i necklace under your shirt. keeps it warm and dry next to your body. :)

these are the same thing, the difference is, the one from summit comes with the pockets and pouches where the special forces one doesn't.

I saw these the other day at a local 4x4 shop. I like the idea but for the price I rather use my current BOB and find a way to fasten it to the contour of the truck seat. OR if these could be removed and carried like a backpack! Another idea for a business opportunity!!! We need to start engineering some of these ideas!:drevil:

Even if you don't smoke, cigarettes are a great thing to keep packed away. When SHTF, we will be going back to the barter system. Keep a carton or two vacuum sealed and stored properly to use later. You can do the same with ammunition. Pick up a few boxes in popular calibers even if you don't own a gun for it. Ammunition will be just as valuable as gold once cash is worthless.
