JoePa did speak up to the proper authority. He did what he was supposed to in that situation. And no facts are known yet what he did or didn't do or was told after that.

I haven't been following this post anymore. But it is nice to see they fired the Coach, hopefully everybody involved that pushed it under the rug will get the same. To me that's aiding and abetting just like driving the get away car. PRISON for all of them, and strip them of all their retirement money. Pedophiles and people who know the people were pedophiles should just be put in lines and killed very slowly. Because the people they do this to suffer for the rest of their lives. Again, there is no evidence yet to support or deny that JoePa "pushed it under the rug". Please stop saying that, and stop believing that from the media. The grand jury report states that Joe did what was expected and appropriate at the time. Nothing is yet know about what any of these people did or did not do, or what they were or were not told after the incident in 2002.

I believe at this point the board had to let Joe go as this has become far too toxic of a situation and would only harm the institution if he stuck around while the media circus continued. I do not however believe that it was fair treatment for a person who is reported in an official police report to have done what he was supposed to at that time and nothing is yet known about what transpired after those events.

 

Joe Paterno has been useless the past 10 years, if not more.

He is as much a bastard as the rest of those sick fucks. I have no respect for him.

Being guilty of crime is not the over/under. Meeting the minimum legal obligation does not a moral or acceptable decision make.

He may not be guilty of a crime per se, but he's certainly guilty of an ethical crime. Sure he reported it through the proper channels, but if nothing was ever done, he has a moral obligation to do something himself. This a young kid we're talking about, I'm sure he won't forget about it.

He may not be legally guilty of anything but is inability to act makes him a pretty shitty individual in my eyes. He got what he deserved, just 10 years too late.

For all you Penn State supporters, this is a thread about a football coach leaving in the midsts of a large controversy... Did you honestly expect a thread on an open forum to be all about what a great guy he was?

 

Its already been said a dozen times, but I feel the need to reiterate. NO ONE KNOWS WHAT JOE DID OR DID NOT DO.

I am sick of seeing him being vilified because he "should have done more." He is NOT the perpetrator here.

If guilt was based on what people "should have done," then everyone here is guilty of not reporting things. There are crimes going on every minute of every day. So if Joe Paterno is guilty by association, then you are just as guilty by not reporting the coworker stealing office supplies, or your family member illegally downloading music, etc.

Stop making Joe Paterno out to be the bad guy. He did NOTHING wrong.

Are you comparing stealing a paper clip to molesting a child? The severity of the crime is the key point here. True, he is not the scumbag who molested children, but that's why he only got fired, not arrested.

If it hasn't been covered. I'm pretty sure it's illegal to NOT report a sexual crime against a minor when you have knowledge of it.

McQueary told Paterno what was going on after he saw it first hand, Paterno did nothing with authorities and then told the Grand Jury a differing story from McQueary's
