I am entertaining the idea of trading in my truck for a double cab. I want to hear from those that have been in a similar situation or anyone that can offer some advice.

I have a 2011 with 13500 miles and I feel that I should have gotten a double cab instead of an access.

What do you guys think? Should I suck it up and keep the truck or suck it up and get a double cab lol. Any idea how much this is gonna hurt the checkbook?

    Thanks

I looked at and test drove both, recently. I went with the double cab for convenience and looks and I'm REALLY glad I did.

Just drove 3 people yesterday and two today, they were comfy. Would not have even offered if I had the AC.

Plus it's easier to load stuff in the back, only have to open one door.

Yea thats why Im looking into the double cabs. My dog is getting too big for the back and its a pain to put stuff in the back or not have enough room for anything.

If I were to do it again... I would have gotten the double cab. It's just way more convenient. I guess at this point you just have to weigh your options, and cost will probably be the biggest downfall of switching.

I will never own anything other than a double cab, regardless of what kind of truck it is.

For me, in your situation, it would all depend on cost. If you are going to lose a lot of money, then I wouldn't do it.

Hopefully you negotiated well enough on your current truck that you can make the switch with little cost - after negotiating the new truck down to a decent price.

It all depends on your needs. With my earlier trucks I've always had an access/extended cab cause it's been just me. No wife, kids, or necessities to mandate having back seats. I have a dbl cab now just because I got a smoking deal on it. Cheaper price than comparably equipped access cabs. If you truly don't have an immediate need for the extra space, switching out now will probably cost you a couple grand.

HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS: Since your dog is getting to big to ride in the back of your access cab you feel you need to spend around $3000 to make it more comfortable for your dog??????? Does that make real sense?????? If I had a dog they would ride in the back period or stay at home period.

The double cab loses about 1 foot of bed space in length. Makes a huge difference to me. I have driven the longer 6 foot bed with the double cab and cannot stand how they corner. Can you imaqgine turning that around on a narrow trail on the side of a mountain???? Maybe some of you have not been there like I have but this will make your butt pucker!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am happy with the choice I made and thank God I have choices!!!!!!!!!

Depending on what your deal was w/ truck you are driving if you can afford to trade up then do it.
I hate paying for a vehicle that I cannot stand driving.
Only you can decide what your finances are and you only have to please yourself, not the internet.

For me, the DC upgrade wasn't worth it. Love my AC, I wouldn't have it any other way.

If you feel you need the DC, and it doesn't murder you financially, do it. The DC upgrade was a TON more in cost, and I didn't want a short bed. No brainer for me. Passengers can suffer, like dogs. Or like your dog :p.

    Just bought it!
Have you considered finding a cap for the bed? Paired up with a rug or rubber bed mat your dog could stretch out in the back and still be safe. My dogs were pretty much the entire reason I bought an access cab. If it wasn't for them I would've just bought a regular cab most likely. I would've still gotten a regular cab and let them hang out in a covered bed but I move motorcycles too and a cap would've made that too much of a hassle.

A cap will be purchased in the near future if I dont go to a DC. The dog was just an example about the inconvenience.

I love my AC but a DC would be a bit more convenient.

Question yourself, do you need a DC? Do you haul more than 2 people often? I went with a AC because i am single at the moment, and even if i get a gf/wife someday, I wont even think about children until I am in my 30s so I am good with a AC for another 12 years maximum. I am not a pack rat and when I travel I dont take anything except the stuff I need, I hate clutter! Plus are you willing to give up that long bed for a short bed? Short bed DCs are way more common and finding one with a long bed might be hard. Just my 2 cents
