My truck has no payments and I am at a bit of a dilemma. Should I trade in my 2009 sr5 4x4 access cab when the new 2013s roll out a year from now or should I keep my truck. If I trade I will probably have to pay 10 grand or more for the difference but if I keep my truck I can put 10 grand worth of mods in it. So I can either have a new 2013 Tacoma or an awsome fully modded 2009 Tacoma, what do you all think is better to do. Note that I will only consider trading for a 2013 if it is a fully redesigned 3rd generation.

You won't get your money back if you spend $10K on mods. Save your money for a down payment on the 2013.

With the refresh for 2012, I doubt the 2013 will be a completely redesigned model. Whenever that happens, if you like it, go for it. But hard to make any determination on a hypothetical vehicle.

My 2009 is paid off, I'm not getting a new truck til I can pay cash along with a trade and come off the lot again not owing anything. So I'll have it for another 6 years or so at the rate I'm saving into my new truck fund. I'll be getting a full size at that point though.

Enjoy no payments and put like 3 - 4k in mods if you must do something. You can do a lot for that amount of money like completely redo the suspension, leather seats and a decent audio set-up. It'll be just like a new truck plus, if you do the work yourself, you'll never want to get rid of it!

Why even ask this question?, make up your own mind. I think you should trade it for a 5-lug I4 stick, I like those the best.

So what do you want? A brand new truck with payments or a 2-3 year old truck with lots of mods?

Probably a moot question since the 2013 will not be a gen 3.

I guess mods would be better and cheaper in the long run and the 2009 has proven reliability

Keep your '09 til the 3rd gen tacomas come out - which most likely wont be til 2014 or later IMO.

I really think that you should stop making threads... You are full of these big ideas in your head with no money to back it up with. Go to school, get a good job, then you can buy whatever the fuck you want and these threads might mean something.

I don't see why people think the next gen tacoma will be coming out soon. The first gen was made in 95 and lasted til 2004. That's 9 NINE years. And with them releasing a baja edition next summer I can almost guarantee you there won't be a new gen in 2013.

As for what you should do there are questions you need to ask yourself. If you are set on buying the next generation and trading in your current truck for it you should not mod it at all. Any mods you do will lower how much the dealer will give you on a trade in.

Keep driving the 2009 as it is and making those truck payments to a savings account till 2018. By then almost all the bugs will be worked out of the 3rd gen. At that point buy a 3rd gen for cash and sell the 2nd gen to pay for mods to the 3rd gen.

Why do most people on here seem to worry about synthetic oil, premium gas, premium oil filters, transmission flushes, etc when very few drive the trucks even a decade? :p
