28 presidential helicopters were just purchased for $400,000.000.00 a piece! That is 400 MILLION DOLLARS! When we are in the financial situation we are in.

    AMAZING 11.2 billion dollars

Well the program is over budget and behind schedule...

But, ya gotta look at a couple things:

    1. It would cost more to start over
    2. It would take more time to start over

Bush ordered the helos after 9/11 -- stressing the need for a good platform with sate of the art comms, etc. The VH71 will do that.

    Current helos are old...

    I'm about there...

Am I the only one that wonders what G. Washington or Lincoln, or even B. Franklin or T. Jefferson would think about what this country has become?

After all they did to build a worthy nation, and here we are.

There are probably the same amount or more of the current helos in service as Presidential Helos. Don't forget, the helos are also taken overseas with the President (the H-60 as it fits better on C5s).

Plus, there are down times, red X's to deal with, and maintenance.

Did you know there are 2 Presidential 747s? And they always fly together... (one is a backup and decoy).

none except for crappy hub caps and floor mats.
28 seems like a lot of helicopters, but interestingly enough, the main presidential helicopters Are pretty old. The current copters are: Vh-3 Sea King, made in the late 70's, and VH-60N, which came online in 1988. Thus they are 30+ and 20+ years old respectively. The current order was placed during Bush's admin, but ran into production problems and are not expected to come online until 2012.

OK.. so if there is almost 30 in use now and they are roughly 30 years old then why don't we just buy one an year and replace the oldest each yr. that way you always have the latest teckno. and only hit the budget for 400 mill per year rather than 11.2 bill all at once.
