Impressed Tundra driver, lifted Tacoma in my future

After years of dealing with problematic (not necessarily unreliable) costly to own trucks I ended up with a 07+ Tundras as work vehicles the last 4 years or so. They've easilly been the most trouble-free trucks I've used. The best part is they're worth something when they need to be turned over.

I currently have a 2010 Tundra Platinum 4x4 I'm using for my travels at this point as a company vehicle but am possibly getting back into contracting for myself again. I would be travelling into remote spots that occasionally have nothing more than a beat down trail to get to a location and I figure a lifted Taco would be a perfect fit.

I've done a lot of research on the Taco and would be looking at a Doublecab TRD w/leather, long box, auto. I joined the site to learn more from the educated owners here as to what I should or shouldn't do and any other helpfull advice along the way.

My dealer had said truck in black with a 6" lift but I wasn't ready to buy at the time. I'm still waiting to see how my immediate future plays out but I figured I'd join now and start getting the info I need.

welcome to tw! i'd say the sport is sweet because of the leather and skewp! but the 6" is unnecessary unless your going into some high clearance areas. the 3" should be fine and if its just dirt roads your going on then the stock bilsteins should be sufficient for everyday use

My main issue is extra ground clearance to crawl over rocks, trees and debri so I figured 6" is better. I won't be using it as an extreme mudder but it's not that mud won't be happeneing.

Gotta admit I was like a kid at Christmas looking at the 6" lift in the showroom. Maybe it isn't the most practicle, though?

 

Not exactly true, a 3" lift on 33's nets more actual ground clearance than 6" on 35's. At least that's what I have gathered from reading on this site.

 

I'm slowly getting my bearings and sorting through all the info here. I always prefer smaller wheels with larger tires.

 

What happens with all 6in lifts on our trucks is the front drop bracket hangs extremely low.... A quality 3in lift ( icon coilovers,light racing uca's,icon 10in rear shocks and all-pro 3in leaf packs). Or a complete old man emu ( OME ) 3in lift with a nice set of 255-80-17 or 285-70-17... Will provide you the ability to go places you wont believe the truck could go till you try it...... Buy a stock truck just the way you want it come on here tell us ur budget for a new susp set up we will help you pick out all the right parts and the take it all to a good local shop to have it installed if you don't like working on your own stuff any questions feel free to pm me.... Also look at people's build threads to see what parts work and don't work

I'm not a rich man but the truck will be paying it's own way so cost of mod's won't be much of an issue. I'd rather spend the money it takes to make it done right with no cutting corners. I want it to be as useful as possible but with reliability and longevity (100,000kms/60,000miles per year) in mind.

Thanks. I still got a long way to go. Sliders, sikds, tires (265/75/16s) & wheels, bumpers & winch. A 3" lift will get you a lot of places you can't go stock.
