Fold Flat Seat Rattle (Passenger Side)

Thought I'd start a new thread. I know there are several "Seat Rattle" threads out there but none that are specific to my issue. I have a 2009 AC that has the fold flat (table top) passenger seat. The F'ing thing is loose as hell where the seat back meets the seat. I drive over the smallest bumps and the whole seat shakes.....does not even seem safe. I am assuming it has to do with the fold flat system as my drivers seat is fine. Took it o the dealer and got the "its normal".....I also got the "its normal" when i brought it in for the harsh ride. Once i showed them the spring tsb, thy fixed it no questions. My question is: is there a TSB for this passenger side seat rattle? If so, can someone point me in the right direction to it? Or if not, has anyone opened up the seat to see if they could fix it?

 

I would have liked to seen more reply’s to your post as I am dealing withthe same issue. The seat shakes and rattles every time you hit a bump. I have been to one dealer in town that says it is normal and the other dealer will take it in to look at it. But you know how that can go. I found a thread overat customtacos:

I tried a small towel under the bottom and upper seat as suggested and it tightens and dampens it somewhat. Since I have a 2011 auto, reg. cab with buckets and the passenger fold flat seat I put a 24” bungee cord hooked around the headrest posts and back to the loop bracketon the back of the cab. The twenty-four settles the seat down without too much tension on the headrest until I decide what I will do.

I will give it some time before I take it to the dealer that said they wouldwork on it. I hope someone has a fixbecause it seems that Toyota is not acknowledging the problem of their fold flat seat mechanism.

 

really sorry to bring back such an old thread, but I have this exact same issue and it's really bugging me! did either of you find a fix?

 

I took my truck in for the 5,000 mile service and they worked on the seat. What they did was tighten a few nuts and bolts. They said they could not tighten them much more than what they were. And that is all they did saying the standby story that is all they can could do and that is really just the way the seat is.

It is a poorly designed folding mechanism. And I am disappointed in Toyota that they are not addressing this issue. Meanwhile I continue to use the bungee cord that halfway settles it down.

 

That's horrible news! It's really annoying and I don't want to start holding things down with bungee cords in my brand new truck!

 

It's not too big of an issue with the regular cab as you can hardly see the black cord but nevertheless it should not have to be done. But with an access cab or double cab it would be too obvious.

I feel the Toyota Truck and 1st generation Tacoma were put together more solidly than the 2nd generation, although they did have their issues. From what I heard the 2nd generation were developed with cost cutting in mind and some thin engineering. They are certainly better than the Colorado, Ranger and Dakota but you would expect more. Hopefully they will do a better job with the 2014 3rd generation to be released in 2013.

 

realistically, as long as the frame, and the mechanics are solid. I'm happy. I don't think they will ever cost cut LESS, only more.

 

got this in my 2012, the damn thing flops side to side like crazy. drives me nuts seeing it out of the corner of my eye when driving.

Old thread dig up, but how many people actually use the fold flat feature? I won't have it on my Sport, but I was trying to think of how useful it is. I could see how it might be useful in other cars that have it like the Sienna and Matrix, where you use it to fit long items in the cabin, but I don't know how many Taco drivers find this feature useful. Seems to be more of an annoyance with the rattling.
