probably not broken. they are screwed in and out. i unscrew mine and take it off when i put it in my case. you could buy another. . . and if i was you i would see what you can do about trading for a different guitar. a guitar like that is a prime instrument for guitar center to sell to some punk kid that thinks its a jackson and listens to a lot of ozzy. . .i would look into a trade of something else. do you have an amp? if you could get a credit towards it the squire strat packs are great for beginner guitar players. comes with a guitar, amp, cables, books, tuner, strap, soft case all for like $250 at guitar centers. . . . those pickups in what you have are most likely not designed to give you much bass or tone. they're called "shred guitars". primarily set up for fast players doing metal solo's and stuff.

^yea. I made the transition to electric guitars 11 years ago with a strat pack, decided I liked the neck so much I put some seymour duncan's in it and I still find myself grabbing it instead of my '68 Les Paul. Definitely worth the extra money if you're halfway serious about it.

I'm left handed as well, but play right-handed. Which really makes a lot more sense to me. You're strong hand should be the one pressing the strings down. My advice to you would be to most definitely FORCE YOURSELF to play right-handed unless you just want to be different.

As far as amps go, look at a solid state combo amp. 30 watts or less. If you're just "playing with yourself" you won't need anymore than about 15 watts.

The Peavey spyder 15w and the Line 6 15w are both good quality amps for about a 100 bucks.
If you want to play heavier music stick with marshall, peavey, or line 6 as a first amp. The distortion on those amps is IMO better than the fender amps and a few others. Fenders aren't quite as thick and aggressive sounding.

I believe it may be a flying V made by Galanti. An Italian company that made guitars for a short period in the 70's. It's definitely a find. Not too many survived. It's not worth a bundle, but you definitely got your moneys worth. Enjoy the play!! Weekends are boring without screaming guitars!!!
