Turn off all vehicle assist systems... please???

Hello, I have a 2010 DCSB TRD-Sport Pre-runner. I wanted to know how to turn off all the vehicles assist systems so I play in the dirt without having a beeping sound (driving me nuts while sliding sideways in the dirt)... followed by a cut in the throttle/brake or whatever it is to correct my "so called lost of control" I've search the forums about the Auto LSD button... I've tried pressing the button an I get two lights on my dash (Auto LSD off an the car logo with squiggles) that doesn't work. Then I pressed an held the button for five seconds, the Auto LSD light goes off an the car logo with squiggles stays on. But in the dirt when i try to spin out or do a "doughnut" the system quickly cuts power an tries to stop me from sliding. Its no fun How do I turn this off an have the rear end still be limited slip so I can play???

 

You've done all that you can to turn it off , but it still lurks in the background but at a lessened sensitivity .

You must stop moving, then hold down the VSC OFF switch for a few seconds until the indicator light comes on.





As OZ-T said, it will come back on to PREVENT you from rolling the truck or spinning out-of-control. You have an excellent, expensive vehicle... not designed for 'do-nuts'... Have fun off roading in a more straight line!

Electronic Stability Control (Toyota calls this VSC= Vehicle Stability Control)

ALL Toyotas now have this...

Electronic stability control, first introduced on the 1995 Mercedes-Benz S-Class, evolved from traction control, and helps to avert a crash by detecting and minimizing skids.





Following safety belts in importance is electronic stability control, Shenhar says.

That's because devices such as airbags and safety cells make a difference only once a collision happens, whereas ESC helps to avert a crash altogether. By detecting and minimizing skids, ESC reduces the risk of fatal multiple-vehicle crashes by 32 percent and fatal single-vehicle crashes by 56 percent, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. That's huge, says Joe Nolan, head of the IIHS Vehicle Research Center.

German parts supplier Bosch developed electronic stability control in the 1990s. The first production car to use it was the 1995 Mercedes S-Class. Now ESC comes standard on many vehicles, and beginning with the 2012 model year, it will be a federally mandated requirement on all passenger vehicles.
ESC uses sensors to detect the intended path of the vehicle and determine whether it's starting to skid. The system can selectively brake one or multiple wheels to keep the vehicle on course. Some systems also reduce engine torque to help stabilize the vehicle. ESC is particularly helpful for SUVS prone to rollover. It evolved from traction control, which prevents wheel spin, but traction control doesn't help steer a vehicle back on course like ESC does.

 

okkie dokkie...thanks, that's kinda a bummer. I don't get off road to much but I'm headed to Pismo for the holidays and just wanted to make sure the LSD was at its max potential so I don't get stuck. An for me its kinda fun to slide around do a couple little "doughnuts" since I only have 2WD

 

ha that would explain a lot... that's no fair why'd Toyota do this instead of just putting a mech. LSD in there? Are the TRD-Off Road Pre-runners the same in the rear diff. open with Auto LSD?

I could use this VSC that you mentioned. Twice already, I fish-tailed while turning a corner with my foot on the gas. But then of course, I would like to be able to turn it off when I want to on my DCSB 4x4 TRD-OR '06

 

Yea I was kinda looking over that mod, but not sure if thats something i need to be messing with.

 

This just isn't true... while it uses wheel brakes instead of clutches inside the differential, to slow down a slipping tire, it IS LIMITED SLIP.

ALL TACOMAS since 2009 have:

TRAC (2WD) normal mode: brakes and engine output regulation to reduce (limit) wheel spin. VSC is active.

Press the VSC OFF switch quickly for:

AUTO LSD (2WD): brakes only to limit wheel spin, engine is NOT regulated. This gives max. power to the traction tire to get unstuck. VSC is OFF to 30 MPH, then is active.

Stop moving and hold down the VSC OFF switch for:

VSC OFF MODE: TRAC is also OFF to allow tires to spin without traction control. If vehicle is approaching tipover angle (high yaw rate), VSC will come back on automatically.

Press the VSC switch again to return to normal TRAC mode... or re-start the truck.

yep... tire pressure is my friend
