Trucar.com quoted me two dealers who would go $1550 under invoice on a 2011. I went to one and couldn't find an '11 with the options (or lack there-of) that I wanted. In order to keep me from leaving, they said they would honor the price quote on a '12 so long as I picked a car off the lot (no trading from another dealer). They had one that I liked, so I took their offer.

    Code:
    MSRP:
    Access Cab 4x4 V6 $25,935
    Stereo upgrade 300
    16" alloy wheels 400
    Daytime Running Lights 40
    SR5 Package 2335
    V6 Tow Package 650
    floor mats/sill prot 195
    Handling Fee 810
    ----------------------------
    Total 30665
    Price I paid: $27,255

This was last weekend in Northern California. I traded in a car for $11,500 and put $5,000 down. I know they will make money on the trade-in, but it was in an accident that had been listed on the carfax and I didn't want to deal with the headache of haggling with people over the price with the accident on it's history. I feel this was a decent deal.

    Well said zul..

I can hold out on buying for awhile and I let him know it. He's since called back and asked to 'meet him half way' on the price. That's a step in the right direction at least.. All said and done, since USAA quote was around 600 under invoice, it'll come out to about invoice after this transfer fee kicks in.

If the only blue 4x4 wasn't a hundred miles away I'd have more bargaining power between the other dealerships. I'll give him a few more days and take your suggestion with emailing the other dealerships at once.

    $600 under invoice? is the truck you're looking for a 2012 or a 2011?

If it is a 2011 keep in mind that toyota itself has some incentives - its either $500 or $1000 cash back. Negotiations should not include this incentive. Because the incentive is a direct reduction to price straight from toyota (and the dealer does not take the hit), it should have no bearing on what price you pay from the dealer. Essentially you should negotiate a fair price, then after all agreements have been made, note that you are aware of the incentive and expect the papers to reflect it.

What some dealers do is quote you a good price like $500 below invoice, without telling you that is including the incentive cash back. So what the dealer is essentially doing is charging you $500 ABOVE invoice then subtracting a $1000 incentive. What you should do is negotiate a deal for at or right around invoice, then have the incentive kick in, lowering the price you pay to ~$1000 below invoice, and it saves you money. Get it? Sorry I'm not the best at explaining this stuff...

Again, tell the dealer to give an OTD price quote. Truck price, any incentive used, ALL dealer fees, DMV fees, and taxes for your state/county/city. That is the best way to compare dealers and prices.

Good luck!!! Let us know how it goes.

just for clarification, .. isn't the cash back incentive for college/military only?... at least that's the only one i've seen advertised for the 2011 and 2012 tacomas...

That is different - 'incentives' are special bonuses that Toyota applies to very specific models/years, for a specified amount of time. Like now - They have a $500 cash back incentive for buying a new 2011 Tacoma because it's the end of the model year and they want to get them off the lots. The military/student discounts (I believe?) are subsidized by the government and are part of a more general goal of boosting the economy. I could be wrong on that - feel free to correct me...

ok, .. when i look on local dealer sites, they don't list that for any of the tacomas... but, ...perhaps you are right, ..maybe they are offering it, but only in certain "regions".. unfortunately, ..looks like they aren't offering it where i'm at :(

Congrats on your purchase forana. I think your invoice should have been around $29800 for those options. Was tax, title, license around 2500?

The factory alarm is around $500. Does everybody or nobody buy that? I just don't see it mentioned around this forum often.

yak, 29800 is a little low. Edmunds and overstock both had the fair price around 31,000. I live in Hawaii and everything in Hawaii costs more.

I was surprised with the new flooring. Its not the crap vinyl stuff of years ago. It looks pretty solid. I liked it.

I am going to invest in the bakflip and pop&lock (when I can figure out which is the right one).

I didn't get the factory alarm just because you can get a better after market alarm for $350 or even lower. $500 seems steep.

I might add the running boards later, $399.

quick update: The papers are waiting for me to sign tomorrow. It seems reasonable. I appreciate the feedback I've received here these past few days - first new vechicle purchase and this was a great resource.

    2012 4WD v6 AT
    Entune
    daytime RL
    Towing pkg
    TRD Offroad
    carpet mats
    alarm
    ________
    Overstock invoice: 32900

Dealer agreed to 32600 (it'll need to be shipped 350mi)
Had it been in inventory, they would've matched the Overstock 'your price' (32,242) but I can't wait around the blue (and black) have been so hard to find here

nashi - how did you make out? If your dealer matched or beat Overstock I'm definitely interested!

Hey forana, I was at Servco on Friday too. Picked up my 2012 DCSB TRD Sport in SW. The salesman said that they've been selling a lot of them and that a lot of people preordered...

Truecar.com was $32,520 and dealer told me $32,659.

I am going to add the Cat Back, Bed Step and Extender, Build date is 12/5 and delivery is expected to be 12/22 - 12/28 yay for a Christmas present.

For me, Blue was a requirement, I'll suffer with my current '94 Toyota pickup till then.

scuzzle, is that a 4x4 or prerunner?

I was told that too, lots of people preordered. There were 13 trucks in the configuration I wanted on order and when I went in only 1 was left, all others sold by preorder. Unreal.

They showed me a black 2012 DCSB 4x4 manual what was sold. It was super nice.I can't wait till I get mine. I'm dying.

Well they sold the one I was negotiating on last night even though the dealer and I came to a verbal agreement on price. Back to waiting for a blue one to appear withing 500mi of southern ca.

For those that preordered, how long ago did you order and someone were to order now how long should it take? My local dealer said 6months with the options I wanted so I'll probably have to shop around for a faster dealer? and on top of that insist on buying it for an amount close to truecar quote.

Scuzzle, I had a hard time deciding between prerunner and 4x4 cause the 2011 prerunners are cheap!! They have some really good prices and incentives on them.

Mine is on the boat and should be here within 2 weeks. Maybe less. maybe 3 weeks.

    Did you get yours already?
