    Beat me to it. LOL

I will be saying some prayers tomorrow for Rob's family. I will be attending the ordination for the new Bishop in our Diocese. Figure if two Bishops are there the prayers may carry more weight. ;)

    back again: veterans day :oldglory:
    lets see:
big banks ripping off vets on VA loans, charging $900 for title search.
partial remains of some soldiers killed in iraq end up in landfills.

seems like honor them one day, and shaft them the other 364. unbelieveable what's going on anymore.

hey-don't be too hard on the youngster that's crashing our site. looks like he's in OCS. that deserves a :thumbsup:. don't know how he gets time to post. maby we could contact his superiors and get him some extra KP, or latrine duty.

My wife and I have been talking about this since it was in the news this week. I can understand that some of the vets may already be inturned when the blown off limbs were discovered. In this day of DNA testing it seems like the parts should be able to be identified. At the least maybe the ashes should have been placed in the Tomb of the Unknowns rather than in a landfill.

I miss the camaraderie as well. The place I work now doesn't have near the camaraderie.

Hadn't heard about the landfills. That's horrendous

Evenin' Susan...just catching up on the days posts...First I heard about the body parts ending up in the dump(aka landfill) that is unexceptable...our Service people put their lives on the line for a cause that protects our freedoms and this is the final respect they receive...I believe the government treats our Vets and Service members as "just a number"...Ken

Hi Ken... yeah, pretty sad what's happening to our service members  Maybe we should send all of congress to the front lines and see how much they like it and then THEY have to be the ones to tell a mom and dad that their son/daughter has been killed and some of their body parts haven't been found - yet, but when they are, they'll just end up in the trash.

AND keep trying to take THEIR benefits away. Keep changing the rules / making them up as they go along.

I wish I was a better letter writer so I could write to my congressman/senator

Good morning, all! Looks to be a nice cool weekend - no rain, though, so that is wonderful! Need to pick up some leaves at the in-laws' place and do some work on my dissertation. It should be a pretty relaxing weekend for a change.

Had an interesting experience last night. We had a formal awards gala put on by our local Chamber of Commerce. They asked me to host a Veterans Day tribute as part of the ceremonies and they arranged for a color guard from on of the local Marine Corps Reserve units. I met with the 4 Marines before the evening started and rehearsed the posting and retiring of the colors. They were invited to go into the VIP reception area for food. The event started and the tribute was set about 1/3 of the way into the event. I was sitting in the front row and one of the Chamber staff organizers came up to me abot 20 minutes before the tribute to tell me that one of the Marines was drunk. I told her to tell the NCOIC to assess the status and only use two Marines to carry the flags if the other one was not fully fit to continue - that's what they did....and they hightailed out after they retired the colors.

The event was at the college where I am the executive VP so my director of public safety...a retired State Police LT...has all of the details and told me that they had to escort the young Marine to their van.

You can bet I'll be contacting the Reserve unit's commander next week.

    Susan:

The Congressmen and Senators should be required to attend the Military funeral of the service member in their state and district. That would sober then up very quickly. When I was stationed at Ft. Stewart I was part of the military escort for two fallen soldiers returning from Vietnam. There are no dry eyes in the house. I feel the only sound that is sobering as a 21 gun salute is the sound of a single bell peeling.
