Some are easier to adjust than others but most have to be adjusted to get a good SWR.

I have a cobra 25 NW ST with a K40 4 ft whip antenna and it does great excellent distance getting out on it. It has your normal volume and squelch and also RF gain Dyna with a dimmer switch. The K40 antenna is a real flexable antenna so it gives alot when it hits trees and stuff.

    meh, shit just adds up...

I bought OME885s on 5100s, and bought a set of new/used UCAs to replace my jacked spacer lift and f'd upper ball joints. i got my ato skids after i had to replace a diff mount that i cracked on dishpan trying the water fall. Made it with the new locker :p no tree molestation this time. i took the high road. then i went to anza and blew a front axle seal so i replaced the needle bearing while i was at it. Then!!! i got a fat ticket for parking more than 25' off the "highway" in anza camping... october was expensive... wife is putting a hold on the toys for a bit. xmas season coming up...

if i make it to Anaheim this week i pick up the handheld and a good antenna at the HRS

would it be the best bet to buy a SWR meter? or just use a heavy gauge wire for my ground and hope for the best?

Thanks my cuz and I are gonna go into together a split the cost of a swr meter since we both are setting up CBs. No reason to have two meters.

I've seen a couple of Anza Rangers that are crazy trying to raise revenues!!! Was it a gal that wrote the ticket? Where were you? I had some bitch try to give me a ticket for gathering twigs (no more than 6 from some tumble weeds). I insisted that they were there when I picked the camp spot. Just minutes before, she ticketed two cars in one spot that had just arrived that morning (It was about 7am). The people were sleeping in their tents. IIRC the tix were $70+ each. $140 vs $30. I guess she thought she was doing her job to justify her $110,000 year pay and 100% retirement fund. So sad to see assholes in these jobs. I have much better feeling for the Fed Rangers and their camping fees are typically 2/3rds of the State crap!

Yeah a buddy of mine gave it to me. It's made to mount multiple radios/amps. It just happens that it fit perfectly around the center console and it's SOLID.:D

My SWR meter is coming in the mail today. Can't wait to tune my system. Hopefully it won't be a PITA

2' firestik. I know it's a hated antenna (for its size) but anything taller than that and it won't let me get into my garage. All I want to do with it is trail runs anyway so range is not an issue.
I just hope I can get it tuned right.

    ETA: HAH! 1.3 on ch20, 1.5 on ch1 and (unfortunately) 2.5 on ch40.

Honestly, not too bad for an antenna I heard so much shit about
