I used Redline MT-90 in both my Tacoma and MR2. I didn't notice much of a difference overall. Maybe a tad quieter, maybe a slightly smoother shift, but for as much as you pay for the stuff, it might just be placebo.

I run Mobil 1 75-90 gear oil in mine. I noticed a difference in smoothness when I first switched it over from conventional.

i just use the reagular shit (penzoil) gear lube 80-90 here at the shop. no probls. shift 1-2 is a little hard especially at high rpms. other than that, not much different from when it was brand new imo.

Mine too is the same, though once it's warmed up those first two shifts get easy, but when she's cold it WILL grind going into 3rd. I took it to the dealer and they wanted to replace the whole tranny for $4300. I gladly took my keys and haven't been back. They said it was the syncro, which I don't necessarily doubt, but it's a livable situation and if it gets worse, I can skip 3rd gear...

1-2, 2-3 were never that smooth in mine either.

I think the red line MT-90 made mine a little smoother.

i use good quality oil and change it every 20-30k depending on color. mine has 40k on it and still shifts like new.

Thanx for th input guys :). Think ill try red line or am soil there were great in my performance cars ... I gather our 6spd will always lack good shifting .... I've driven 1980's Mack tri axle dump trucks there were smoother then the taco lol

i feel that your last statement was a joke. the 2008 mack (i was the lot waster on the weekends for cash) sucks at shifting so i doubt the 80s model was much better. haha

try the short throw shifter kit? is your clutch worn, need adjustment, do you "dump" your clutch/ not depress the clutch all the way? are the fluids topped off? does your drain plug have metal bits around it/in the oil?

i hope it is an easy fix for you. but i know both my previous 06 and my current 09 and my buddies 07 do not have issues shifting. just trying to help

    None yet! It's new!
Red Line MT-90. I also think it's a little smoother with the Red Line, but that may just be my imagination.

Everyone always forgets.... this is a truck, not a car. There are going to be things that simply are not engineered for quiet, or smooth, or fast shifting, or whatever.... certain things aren't going to be a "first priority" when building a truck. I allow a certain leeway with some things in my Tacoma. 1st gear is awfully low... but it's a truck and that low gear is great for certain things. I don't shift it as quickly as I do a sports car - give those synchro rings a little time in the truck, and it shifts quite smoothly.

Just my thoughts.... and sort of off-subject. Sorry.
