RI or Southcoast MA advise needed

I need advice on a good honest mechanic in this region (RI, Fall River MA) to perform upgrade work to my '05 Tacoma AC TRD Off-Road.

No Problem. What are you doing to your truck?

 

Tires, full lift job, CAI, exhaust.... It's all stock now, want to toughen it up a little.

I reLly don't know, I'm a hi tech composite ship builder and at a loss w all of this but know I want a better Tacoma, big question is to invest into my light used 05 w/95k, I'm original owner and she's paid for and with the normal salt water my. Boat. Really like someone to advise, no go or go with my truck, I think it would go.

 

I've also been lookin' for a shop, to install a full lift on my Tacoma, probably in the spring.
Haven't been successful nor have had one recommended yet.
If you find a place and are satisfied with the work, make sure you post it here for others.
You can also tell whoever you choose, that a positive experience, posted on TW, will get him some referrals.
Most would have no problem traveling, to get good work done.

Well there's WC Motorsports. You can check them out. They are right across from Gillette Stadium. I have never done anything there but a friend had a Ready Lift put on his Tacoma. In NH you got KMS or Kens Off Road both are pretty good I heard. I myself just had my dealership put my 5100's on the front (they we gonna replace my struts under warranty anyway). I did the add a leaf, the diff drop and the driveshaft spacer myself. I ordered it all from Toytec. It's not that hard at all.

Thanks, have given thought to havin' the dealership do it ($$$$), seein' twenty 1st Gen Frames out back every time I'm there, I figure they're capable.
I'm leanin' towards the complete 2-1/2" OME with Dakars and LR UCA's. Oh and SS Brake Lines. Don't know if I want the Dealers Install Bill.

Get a couple of friends, a case of Sam and put that lift kit on yourself! You'll learn a lot about your truck and you'll know it's installed correctly. There are a lot of good DIY install threads on this site with plenty of pictures to walk you through the process. Suspension kit installs aren't overly difficult, especially if you can get your coils pre-assembled on the shocks.

Always good to have a good mechanic for the difficult stuff but if you can do the mostly physical work yourself, you can save a good amount of money.

 

OSC is highly recomended. Those guys are awesome.

 

Yeah, I've thought about it, but I'm far from a competent mechanic,
and can't think of a friend I'd let within ten feet of my truck with a Sam in one hand and a wrench in the other.
Still think I'd rather have a shop that has experience doing lifts handle it.
Time is the other issue. I've already got a pile of Mod stuff I've bought, sittin' in a pile, instead of installed on the Tacoma.
Maybe I'll feel different about it in the Spring.

No, you have to buy the Sam beforehand, get your buddy to come over and bribe him to help but, and more importantly, you can't give the help the beer until the install is done! No drunk amateur mechanics!

 

It's not too hard, my first lift and I installed most of it myself. I had a shop do the UCA's for me, since it had to be there for an alignment anyways. Good thing because one of the new ball-joints was improperly machined and I had the mechanic back me up, so the company (Light Racing) ended up overnighting a new ball-joint to the shop. This shop deals mostly with suspension/tires. They done work for me before, never been disappointed. This is one of two places I trust to touch any of my vehicles.

Installing a lift in your driveway isnt all together complicated. On a newer truck they are wicked easy. No stuck bolts!!!! IF you think about how simple it really is to throw in a set of pre-assembled coils. Literally 3 top nuts to remove then one lower bolt. The most difficult part is Applying the proper leverage via crowbar to droop the LCA enough to slide the coilover in. The rears are also fairly simple. Think we should have a TW northeast wrenchathon day

 

Found a great highly outfitted shop very near my house in Tiverton RI (Smith Auto Center). Most shops i contacted would not install parts/kits they didn't sell, kinda with attitude. Owner is a great guy, i told him i don't mind paying a mark up as businesses need to make money, his reply surprised me, "buy what you want so to save money and he'll install it no problems!" I mentioned this website as some are looking for good honest shops to do this type of work. I have a Toytec Ultimate Radflo kit w/Dakar leaf & UCA's, SpiderTraxx 1.25" spacers, WickedFlow exhaust and 265/75-16 DuraTracs ordered!
