What's better to jack a tacoma double cab? High lift jack or jack stands?

At a local auto store they have a 60 inch high lift on sale and jack stands. I am not sure of the pluses and minuses of these products? I'm just use to using the crap jacks that I get with cars. Any help would be great, thanks!

 

High lift is for trail jacking. Hydraulic jack w/ jack stands is for doing work on your truck, ie rotating tires, installing lift kit

 

The High Lift would be best used with heavy aftermarket bumpers and welded on sliders to handle the weight.

 

I'd use it more for on the side of the road repairs and what not. That's pretty much it. I don't have a garage so I won't be doing anything else under the truck.

 

Unless you have a place to lift from (aftermarket plate bumpers or sliders) a high lift will do you no good.

 

That's what I was wondering. Because I know that the jack stands go under the points under the truck(says the manual) to lift it to do minor things like tire repairs, changes etc. I'm starting to think that a high lift wouldn't be a good idea since that I only have stock bumpers etc.

 

Jack stands don't lift as stated ^ they just hold once you use a jack to lift.

 

Omg! I am so confused. Cars are so much easier lol. So is it one or the other or neither. lol

 

So get the high lift jack? Or another kind of jack?

do you have sliders or an aftermarket bumper? if you dont you really cant use the high lift that easily to change a tire, you would need a high-lift receiver for your hitch to lift the back , and also install some kind of jack lift point up front

 

For on the side of the road repairs concider a bottle jack that has a higher lift rate and a few blocks of wood. Also, a chock and a couple jack stands.

 

go to harbor frieght and get a jack and stand combo, if you need a jack for changing a tire on the roadside then use your OEM jack, it works

 

The jack stands do not lift the truck! You still need a jack. Once you use the jack to lift the truck, you then place the jack stands under it so that if it were to slip off from the jack, it will not crush you.

 

Nope, everything is stock. No sliders or aftermarket bumper.

For side of the road repairs, I would get a bottle jack that lifts higher than the stock jack. A typical floor jack will take up way too much room.

Jack stands do not lift the vehicle. They are used in conjunction with a floor jack to support the weight of the vehicle in case the jack fails. BTW always use jack stands! Can't stress that enough. My buddy almost lost his leg because we were 16 years old and stupid, working on a car without jack stands. The jack broke, the car fell and almost took off his leg, fortunately he pulled his leg out from underneath the car just in the nick of time.

Thanks for the links. I think that a pump jack and jack stands would be a great idea. Thanks for stopping for making me getting a high lift jack and only jack stands.

 

If your truck is stock, why not use the stock jack that came with it
