New speakers!!

so I finally got new speakers.. my girlfriend surprised me with them as an early 21st birthday present (birthday isn't until january) and I was wondering if y'all had any pointers on installing the she got the off of crutchfield I heard the tweeters are hard to install hope not..

get yourself some speaker mount rings... there's a few people here that make/sell them. I've got the ability to do so as well, just haven't advertised doing so yet.

crutchfield said it came with speaker brackets will those work? and I'm getting an amp for them to use with the stock head unit

 

Stock head unit will still suck. I would get q forms kick panels

 

?? in a high end system yes kick panels are a great location because the distance of the speakers is a little closer to even on each side. but for a guy running 4 speakers off his deck he wouldn't even hear a difference, most people with a 5k sound system wouldn't hear the difference especially if the sound processor has any kind of time alignment.


and yeah you wont notice the best sound in the world untill you add an amp to the speakers but it WILL still sound better than stock. not quite as loud since the stock speakers are more efficient but it will still sound better.

crutchfield usually sells vehicle specific mounting brackets with all there speakers just make sure they are solid if they are thin plastic which most are cut use your factory speaker as a template and cut out some rings from 3/4" mdf takes like 10 min to do.

 

Should, but it depends on the thickness of their adapter and the mounting depth of the specific speakers you are purchasing.

I will second that. Don't use the stock head unit. I just got finished rigging my truck out with an entire system. six speakers, sub, sub box, amp and HU. I tried to skimp and use the stock HU. I mean,, how bad could it sound? Answer: bad. Ponied up and put in a DD Kenwood. Can't even compare. Anway, that was just my experience. I head some on here fiddle with the gains etc and get decent sound.

Guess I am not the only who thought the same thing. Stock head units all suck. If you have a solid foundation your house will last forever. If you put it on a weak foundation it will eventually crumble. The signals stock head units send out are junk, even the phony JBL version.

 

Yeah the stock head unit sounds like junk alone but with the right stuff behind it it can easily sound as good as any aftermarket head unit on the market. I get customers all the time who don't want the look of an aftermarket head unit like my wife's 2011 4 runner with factory nav, for those audio controll makes some very nice line output converters and signal processors (not the cheap 30.00 junk) it will cost about the same as adding a nice double din head unit but also make any factory deck equal the sound quality of the best aftermarket options. In my wife's car I used the audio controll DQL 8 and jl amps with focal speakers all off the stock deck but you can't tell by listening to it.
