Just to throw more confusion into your life: there's two different kinds of Nitro front clamshell 8" 4.56 gears.

Normal, or "thin" for the 3.90 and up carrier - not sure the part number - but this is the one you'd need if you were regearing from the 2nd gen 4banger to 4.56)

...and "thick" for the 3.73 carrier that's in the V6. That part number is: T8S-456RT-NG

Most folks running four bangers seem to jump to 4.88 from what I can tell.

You just need the ring and pinion and an install kit, probably extra shims, and the know-how to do a gear install correctly so as not to fuck up your new gears

    Update:

ok so I have called Nitro Gear 5 times in the last 3 days with no answer. I also left 2 voicemails with no call back. I even found them on facebook and and posted

"Are you guys still in business? I have called 5 times in the last 3 days with no answer. I also left 2 voicemails with no call back."

with still no response. If it is this hard to get a hold of them to buy product I can’t even imagine what it is like if there is any warranty problems.

That 150 to 300 price per axle is if you pull the diff out yourself and take it to the shop to have gears set up. It's more if you drive the truck in and have them do the whole thing.

Depending on the time frame I may be interested. I have an arb in the rear and now i want to put one in the front. Only problem is I also want bigger tires, so I think I'll have to re-gear, but I've read the 8.4 rear has less options than the 8, so I need to do a lot more research about what size will fit my needs.

It's my daily driver and I drive long distance a lot so gas mileage is a huge concern. It's already way worse than I want.

It can be done at home if you have the right tools, patience, and the ability to let the truck sit on jackstands for a day or two.

That said, since most people on this site get worried about trimming fender plastic, yes, it's probably out of their reach.

So x2 - if you're not familiar with autos and how to work on them, leave this one to the professionals. You do NOT want a fucked up gear install - it's an expensive royal PITA.

Edit: Also, those prices on the Nitros look good :)
