Im getting road rage directed at me for

My head lights, every one seems to think my brights are on when there not. My 2011 Trd is stock and when I pull up behind another veh my lights do seem high in there rear view mirror. Last time had a oil change I asked them to adjust my lights but I don't think they did. when my lights are on high beam they seem to high. Does any one else have this problem and is there a Way I can adjust he headlights myself. thanks in advance.

Read the attached PDF, it shows how to properly aim your headlights. Only takes about 5 minutes and a long shank philips head screw driver.

 

It's common with our bright headlights to get flashed because people think you have your brights on.

 

A lot of people say this and I couldn't disagree with that statement more... If your headlights are aimed properly you should not get flashed. I'm lifted and I'm running those brighter headlight bulbs (PIAAs) and have never had anyone flash their high beams at me.

 

People, go to dark road and aim low beams where they light up road 30-40 yards or so out in front of the truck and then drive around and make sure they are even and don't need to be left or right some or up or down more. If you point them where you get the most effective light on the road out about that far then it should be reasonably good. The brights should light up lower parts of trees and 2nd story of houses 50 yards or farther away but not low flying airplanes. Behind people on road, lows should light up rr of cars up to trunk lid when reasonably close but not their back windows and rr view mirrors (of normal ride height vehicles). If you do this then you should have few if any problems. There will always be someone driving around with faded out lenses or weak cheap ass bulbs thinking yours are too bright even when aimed properly. Ignore those people.....................and do the same adjustment for whatever type lights you are using & readjust when changing bulbs as they all won't hit the same spot.

 

Of course you may get flashed, but why should you have to aim your headlights down loosing visibility at night just because of whiny geriatrics still behind the wheel? My lights are adjusted to give me the best possible vision while maintaining proper light dispersal and if people wanna flash me then ill flash back, and if they are too bright in your mirror then flip the dimmer..

 

If your headlights are properly aimed then I agree with your statement. If not and you've got them aimed high just so you can see better than I would say that's a complete asshat move. Not sure which way you were going with your statement so you either get the or

 

I light up people's interiors in their cars all the time with my stock taco...not going to adjust them down though, I prefer being able to see!

 

HA touche! I drive in atlanta surrounded by A-hole drivers who could care less about me and my safety. That may help you decide which way i meant it?

 

I'm just suggesting being reasonable with it. Of course there are gonna be people who have them higher and those who have them pointing at the ground, some cars sit lower and will be offended and others are higher and don't care. Basically if you are being flashed all the time it is your problem. If it is infrequently then it is other people's problem. About all you can do about it. Doesn't really bother me one way or another and it isn't worth getting in stupid bullshit over. If you attempt to be reasonable then most often only unreasonable people will have a problem with shit. I don't have to like anyone else's and they don't have to like mine is where I leave it.

 

I rarely if ever get flashed by oncoming drivers and I have brighter bulbs and I'm lifted. Make sure you have them aimed properly as others have said. I was sitting at a traffic light yesterday and the old guy in a minivan across the intersection from me kept flashing his brights at me. I just laughed at him because he was being too sensitive. I think it was because I was sitting on a slight incline so he happened to be in the beam of my headlights because of the angle my truck was sitting.

 

Dang people, wish I had this problem. My headlights are aimed right and they have sucked since day 1. Afraid to upgrade until they burn out because you get tickets for aftermarket lights around here.

 

You won't get a ticket for brighter bulbs as long as they are DOT approved. Same with aftermarket lights, they just have to be wired correctly. I went through VA's BS when I lived there and ended up having to cut might lights off my truck to pass my first inspection. Afterwards, I figured out how to make them legal in VA. You can replace the bulbs with brighter bulbs of the same wattage without any legal implications.

 

People flash if you have stuff in the back of the truck making it point up more than usual too. Then you show them your brights and they still act like asses. We'd all be better off if people quit being such pu$$ies about every damn thing and stop acting like products of socialism.

 

i get flashed all the time on the highway. i think it is because i never turn off my fogs, which u really gotta have in deer country. . i am about 3.5" higher in front and 2.5 in the back, so i am a little nose hi, my wife complains all the time when i follow her home from somewhere that my lights blind her in the rear view mirror. she's in a 4x4 4runner. i wouldnt trade my lights for anything. they are supurb at lighting up whats coming.

 

The 2nd gen Tacoma lights can be very effective if aimed properly. They have a very good cutoff and if it's adjusted carefully it can light up a good 80-100 yards down the shoulder without blinding even short cars. That little adjustment wheel is very sensitive; being just 1 tooth off can be the difference between good considerate lighting and blinding everyone.

My Honda was far more difficult to set up. The cutoff on those reflectors was almost as sharp as HID projectors. I always said the world ceased to exist above that line because literally almost no light went there; I needed the diffusion from the less precise foglamps to light up road signs in that car. In fact if it was sunny a lot of times other driver's simply couldn't see the lights were on unless they were dirty. Unfortunately if the lights were even just a little too high - or a person in the back seat - it was indistinguishable from high beams to other drivers. The Tacoma doesn't have this problem thankfully.

FWIW my truck was set up with the passenger side 7 clicks too high and the driver's side 3 clicks too low. I was getting complaints from people I knew that it was a one eyed blinder so I set aside an hour and fixed it.

 

I've gotten bright lighted 3 or 4 times in the 8 or so month's I've had my Taco. Don't plan to do anything about it. I thought they should be right from the dealer? Is there a specification for this? My dads car 08 Kia Optima were rather low. He was complaining about not being able to see at night. I took a look and the lights did seem low imo. So I pulled his car into my garage (level gorund) so the lights were shinning on the wall and adjusted them up a little. He is happy with it now and nobody has bright lighted him. As far as we know the car has never been wrecked, he did buy it used but in brand new condition and a clean Carfax. I can't see any indication of being wrecked so I have no idea why the lights would be out of adjustment. So is this normal for the manufacturers to send them out adjusted wrong?

 

I get flashed sometimes, but not enough to worry about. It is annoying getting brighted though; so I hit 'em back and leave them bright until I pass.

 

Me too. 2011 4x4. I think I will get a light bar with 4 huge driving lights and blast them the next time I get a high flash while driving on my low beams.
