Tire light when on after installing my MT wheels

Hey guys my tires psi light when on today after like 3 days of driving it with my after market wheels.. Would I have to buy sensors for my after market wheels??? Or whats the proses?? thanks

 

Well if you don't have sensors in your wheels the light is going to come on. Or if you're running higher or lower PSI then what the sensors are set for it will come on.

 

First, check the tire pressure in all 5 tires. If they are all at where you want them and equal, read your owners manual for re-setting tire pressure monitor.

 

and if not one of them is broken

 

If your light is solid then you have low pressure. If it blinks for 1 minute then goes solid, you have a MIL or Malfunction indication lamp. If it blinks you have a sensor issue. Check you pressure a lot more often when the ambient temperature outside drops. Battery life is usually 5 years or 100k miles, by the way.

 

Thanks guys.. My mickeythompson wheels dont have any sensors in them, as fas as i know since i bought them used. Do are OEM wheels have sensors in them?? Im thinking its the PSI I havent checked them since i put them on..

Its a 2012 so i dought the sensors are bad, but you never know

 

The sensors are mounted on your stock rims, which are no longer on the truck.

 

Mine took a few days to come on. Just put the sensors in a pressurized vessel, like pvc pipe and throw it under your seat or you will get use to the light.

 

The shop could have swapped the sensors to the new wheels rather easily

I was thinking of buying new sensors for my wheels. manley because my truck still has warrenty for the nxt 6years..

Were can get them and how much are they??

 

I'm not sure about the Tacoma ones, you can get them at any tire shop but they might have to order them in if they don't have enough in stock. I work at a Discount Tire, and they run anywhere from $50 to $150 a piece

Why don't you just use the ones that came on the Tacoma? I just got wheels put in and rather than spend the extra money on the sensors and the seal kit, I just had them put the original ones in. Should save you a good amount of change!

 

Manley because of my truck is still under warranty. I dont want them later on, down the road to blame on the aftermarket wheels if a suspension part gives out.. the dealers are PITA when it comes to warranty a part.. Yall get me.

 

I don't understand how putting the TPMS in the new wheels would place blame should the suspension have any issues. TPMS has nothing to do with suspension. There are sensors in the valves that communicate with the reader in the truck, that's all. From what I understood, they have to prove that any modification has caused another part to fail. What they don't cover is what you took off and replaced. In other words, the new wheels will not be under warranty, but everything else around it should be.

Maybe the seals around the TPMS won't be covered because they may become damaged during removal.

 

Ummm his point is that you took the wheels WITH the tire pressure sensors in them off the truck...and now you don't understand why your TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT is on...

Yep ... that pretty much sums it up.

 

May be a dumb question, but I'm not positive on the answer. Is it possible to just mount all of your tpms sensors in the spare tire and keep it aired up? Just a thought for those that don't want to deal with it..

 

It is possible, but you can't really "mount" them. You would just have to throw them in there, and they would tumble around if you ever used the spare.
