I went and got a quote to paint the chrome part of my center grille the same color as my truck and they told me it would be $325. I thought this was absolutely ridiculous. I went to another shop and they told me $80-100. Huge difference there. I don't want a crappy paint job but I don;t want to get raped either. Just going to be using it until I get my :homer: :taco: grille anyway. Any thoughts on what anyone else has paid.......

I thought someone would ask that and honestly, I hate chrome, any type of chrome and the quicker I can get this gone the better.

I guess how much $$$ is it worth to you to get rid of it? If you are changing to a different grill soon then I would go with the cheaper place and be done with it.

Really $300. Thats about $20 in paint and maybe hour of work minus dry time. Def should be under $100. Check is you can buy a color match one online for cheaper. Then you can sell your chrome one.

If you goto the body shop just make sure there not a under the table business and there licensed/bonded. They should be able to match the color with no problems. In Vancouver we have Public insurance ICBC, so you can go to any ICBC recognized body shop and be sure they do a good job.

$325 is pretty good for professional grade materials

if you want cheap I'm sure you can get some guy with dirt floor to hit it with a spray bomb

If you are talking about the chrome Toyota emblem in the center of the grille, it pops out really easy from the grille, scuff the chrome with sandpaper (I used 180 grit black paper) and paint it yourself. Took me less than an hour, used less than 1 can of Tremclad flat black paint. Super easy mod, less than $10, and that's Canadian $$ where everything cost double what it is in the U.S.

You get what you pay for... $325 is pricey, but that chrome has to be completely primed, and then sprayed. I bet it comes with a nice warranty too.

If you spend $50 on spray bomb, and do it yourself, the colour will look poor, texture will be off, and it will likely chip. Again, you get what you pay for... Sucks to pay so much for painting such a small part, but painting isn't cheap.

It is a good shop that I got the quote from. When I had a Civic 11 years ago they painted and formed my body kit to fit perfectly but it only cost $800 for all that. I know prices have risen in 11 years, but that seemed a littel pricey.

I guess if you are looking for a professional quality finish you should get it done professionally. I just wanted to black it out because I don't like chrome on my 4X4. Seriously it was very easy, the key is to scuff the chrome well so the paint has something to bite to. So far I have put the truck through a pretty good 4 wheeling trip, complete with overgrown roads with small trees whacking the grille. Last weekend was a hunting trip to the north island in snow, hail and more bushes. No sign of degradation of the finish. And if it does get damaged, I will pop it out again and hit it with the spray bomb. I can do that for years before it costs me $325!

325 is pricely, even if they do all the prep work to remove the chrome. you could get it plated in gold for that price

Thats a good idea, along with that I will remove the Toyota emblem and put a $ instead, gold plate the emblems and wheels and dip the body of the truck in the same stuff they did on American CHopper for the money bike and have $100 bills all over it!!!! HAHA!!!! jk

I would not do it as good as a body shop would and would hate to mess it up.

Still see no point in spending any money when your replacing it anyways, but whatever floats your boat.

Homer has a nice white grille for sale now i think, flush mount

Yeah, I am #34 on the list. Got a little bit of a wait ahead of me but it will be well worth it in the long run.
