Well Wed for me started off at -2C , which is why I was out at the site at 11:00 covering up freshly poured concrete so it wouldn't freeze .

Damn socialist weathermen promised a low of +3C .

Now , I'm going to bed . I have to get up today and go back to work .

Uneventful.

We have our Chief Engineer in town this week helping me build out a new office space. Running cables, installing routers, etc... I'm exhausted.

Any plans to get a new computer in the near future?

I have some Lenovo T61's laying around I'd sell you for pretty cheap. They're Core 2 Duo's with around 2GB of RAM. I use it for managing our entire infrastructure here and it works pretty well.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I agree that'd be your best bet as long as the rest of the machine is in good shape.

I don't personally think so - there seems to be a lot of hype (which means markup) on them.

Do you use your computer mainly for gaming (I mean, we know you don't use it for TW )? If so, and if portability isn't a requirement, I would look at building a badass desktop. 90% of the time it's cheaper than buying one prebuilt and it's actually a lot of fun.

I can get refurbished/used server components pretty cheap from a couple places, but probably nothing for a laptop.

Newegg.com is where I get most of my stuff for personal/non-bulk use.

This is the first I have heard of them, so I would do some reading up on them, check BBB, etc...

As far as replacing them, it just depends on how comfortable you are with that stuff. Laptops are trickier than desktops, but they're not too bad - the components are all the same.

Obviously, I would check forums and stuff for people that have done this on your specific laptop to find out any nuances that may be specific to them, but aside from that, take it apart piece-by-piece, put the screws and such in ziplock bags so you can label them, take pictures as you remove each piece, etc...

It would all depend on what I found out about the company before ordering, if there was any kind of warranty, etc...

Obviously, I would compare this price to a new one to see if it's worth it.
