1996 Toyota Tacoma - Removal of Rear Bumper, Installation of new brackets,

and then reinstalling old bumper.

Which is the service manual, but it only covers the front bumper. I'm starting to search the forum for possible diagrams/instructions. I am a moderate car guy, with no body experience, just engine installation (1o years ago) and small repairs like alternators/starters etc.

I don't have my tools anymore either. I basically need, with the grace of you guys helping me, a diagram, instruction, and what tools do I need to have to do this job.

The bumper is pretty much straight. I'm assuming I only need to install new brackets. Do you guys think I'm right? Do I need to show the experts here more pictures?

not too hard. If the bumper itself is okay, then the bracket should be the part that is damaged.

Basic wrenches/sockets is all you should need.

 

x2, yup...just follow where your bumper bolts on to and where it bolts on to the brackets...I believe there are a total of 4 bolts holding the bumper and 4 in total holding the brackets..just make sure the brackets are aligned somewhat where the old brackets were before they were damaged some how

 

What sockets/wrenches (sizes)? I need to borrow them.

 

2 large, 1 med, and 1 small, lol .. it may be easier to bring your truck to the place you will borrow them from.

 

I guess you're right. Based on the picture do you think that it only needs new brackets?

Also, what's the cheapest place to procure brackets?

I've found: This, from ebay, which seems to be the cheapest one I've found.

Does anyone have any suggestions for different places to purchase the brackets?

 

the only way to know for sure if he brackets are the only thing damaged is to tear it all down and inspect everything, or try to get your head under the truck to where you can look at the bumper to see if the place where the brackets bolt up aren't damaged.
