TPMS light staying on

Hey guys. A few weeks ago I bought an 2007 Tacoma. I just had the tire pressure gague go on. I filled up my tires and looked on yahoo how to reset it. But, its still on. Do I have to drive around for a bit? And do I also need to fill my spare? Cause if so, how the hell do I get under there to get it filled? Thanks

 

Yea there is a sensor in the spare. Check that first

 

the TPS sensors on these trucks are crazy. it tells you how to reset it in your owners manual. and yes, there would be a sensor in your spare. there is a tool bag that should be under your back seat with your jack. you should be able to take that out, put the rods together, slide them in the slot above your licence plate, into a joint that when you spin will lower the tire down so you can check it then.

now, i also have a 07 tacoma to which after i bought it the tps light came on. after doing all that stuff i just told you, it was still on . . . and that was a year ago. you get used to it if you cant figure it out. just a little extra light in the dark.

 

Will it go on if you put to much air in? On the truck door it says 29 psi. But these are 4 brand new tires that say 44

 

What the chances of it being the spare?

Is the 44 PSI the max rating for the tire? If so, you should not be running that much pressure. The Tacoma is a light truck and should not require that kind of pressure unless you're running D or E-rated tires.

Also, I think I read the TPMS works on pressure differential. So if it's reset at 35 PSI, it will get tripped if one tire drops a certain percentage below the set value. That being said, I don't know what would happen if you set the spare too far below or above the other 4 tires. I run 2-3 psi lighter in the rear and have not tripped the light yet.

 

If all the other tires are at the proper pressure I would say 99% it's your spare...

 

Chances are very good that it's the spare if that's the only tire you haven't checked yet.

Also. Will it reset itself after I fill the spare? If the spare isnt the case will it turn off after I drive it for a bit?

 

I don't believe it will reset itself, just use the SET button under the steering column, that's what it's there for.

As far as your 44 PSI question, someone else will have to chime in, I don't know how it will deal with pressure differentials between the 4 main tires and the spare. My question still stands though, why are you running 44 PSI on a Tacoma?

 

I did the set button. But, do I still need to drive a bit? Or no? Do you just hold it till the light blinks 3 times and your good?

 

99% sure it's just reset using the button and you're good. I don't have my owner's manual in front of me for the process but I don't remember having to drive to make the light shut off.
