I have the ADD on my '01 Tacoma... I recently installed a pre-setup 6inch lift on it that had gears already setup that matched the 4.88's I put in the rear. I didnt notice until I bolted the whole, heavy one piece sub-frame with the lift, axles, diff etc included, to the truck, that the "new" diff did not have the ADD side tube on it. I am assuming, but wanted to see if anyone knew for sure, that I can simply unbolt my ADD side tube and remove the ADD axle stub and install both onto the "new" diff for it to work. Is this correct? Oh and the reason i am doing this also is because the person before, that i got the setup from, never unlocked his front-end i.e. no manual hubs, just locked in at all times. Thank you in advance for any info you can provide, it is much appreciated.

The person you bought this stuff from..... did he tell you that it was an ADD setup?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by 'side tube'.....

If you're talking about taking ADD parts off your old axle setup and putting it on the new axle setup.... It depends on what the 'new' axle setup is and whether the axle shafts, size, & splines are the same.

And perhaps someone will chime in ....

But it sounds like the person before you - eliminated the ADD completely. If that's the case...... Do you really want to use the ADD? Or should you think about putting manual locking hubs in?

What's your reason for changing the setup? Do you offroad a lot?

Yeah op you can swap the tubes if you like, if it has no actuator on it then its meant for manual hubs.

Thank you guys for the replys! I thought about doing the manual hubs, but I do like the convenience of the ADD and if itis as easy as swapping the tubes, then I will do that. I am in the military so I dont get up in the mountains as much these days and my wife uses it more in the winter... Im sure if I did the manual hubs, I would be getting calls in the winter from her saying the truck's in a ditch, "but I put it in 4WD.." Haha. Thank you guys again

Yeah there are arguments for and against manual hubs, I like the pro's of them though.

Mainly the whole front drive train doesn't spin when you daily drive, saving wear and tear and a little mpgs,

Also if something goes wrong with your diff or front axles, you can unlock the hubs and drive home in 2wd instead of being towed.

If you do ever get them A great thing for the winter, especially for your wife, is to get a big ish pvc T shaped coupler, then notch the bottom to fit over the hub and use the T to get leverage on turning them when they become difficult!

I never thought about being able to unlock fully if there is a problem with the front-end.. VERY good idea with the pvc on the hubs!

These days any bit of mpg improvement is much welcome, but do you know if there is a noticable difference between the hubs and the ADD?

Well then for the time being, I think I will be going for the ADD. I will tell you one thing... with not being able to unlock the front-end right now, I am getting around 225mi or less on a tank
