Did a shoot for a couple ski mags of the World Cup course on Ajax today, nothing like ripping fresh groomed on a fast black diamond run....a week before opening day.

Snowmass opens Saturday, come on up and take a few runs!

    Nice! Looks killer.

Did you do the shooting? I've been trying to break into shooting/editing snowboard videos. I go up and shoot my own stuff and have been working on a demo, but I have no idea where to start other than to freelance and hope to get enough gigs.

Yep, I do the shoots. It's tough out there for peeps trying to break in. Since I make 100% of my living off of shooting, I keep it waaaaay on the down low, not even a site for the public to see. Number one, you have to be better than at least 80% of your competition. Number two is you have to meet people face to face, not just email blast. Number three is that you have to charge correctly right out of the gate, not low ball just to get the so called "Exposure" which in this day and age is utterly worthless until you get a following in which everyone knows you don't mess around with "Freetography"...

    Welcome to the jungle..;-)

    Hah, what a fun thread.

I'm sure I'm the old guy here but that's cool.

Started boarding in Dec. 1990, the first week I landed back on the "mainland" after 3+ years in HI, surfing and serving in the Corps! So wow, 21 years and still no broken bones (knock on wood).

Taught both of my girls to ride, now 13 and 17. "Made" em both learn to ride goofy, so we could ride up the lift easier!

I probably have over 10 boards of varying flavors including two hard carving setups, a Nidecker and a Ghost.

My current favorite though is my Palmer Burn, great free-ride board. But I'm really "jones-in" for a Magnetraction type of board, they hold such great edges.

Oh, if anyone's in the NE IL/SE WI area, I'm a Boarder Patroller at Wilmot and can probably get you on for free.

Feb. of this year when we got 20+ inches of fresh:

    Don't break, bounce!

As someone that treats 5-10 broken wrists each day I volunteer as a patroller, lemme offer a bit of advice.

Hard as it is to do, don't extend your arms when you fall. If you're going down, tuck in your arms and just let your body hit the ground. Body slam it dude. You're young, you'll absorb the bounce and most likely get up and ride away.

All the dislocated shoulders, elbows, broken collar bones and wrists I've treated are caused by extended arms.

BTW, I'm sure you guys can out-ride me in the park but, can you do a full apex turn? Meaning, tear down the hill at great speed, carve a toe-side turn into a full circle? It's a blast and teaches you good edging technique.

Man, I'm getting stoked to go riding, it's below freezing!

sweet! and do it. at least you’ll have fun. lol
i don’t want to brake anything. but 80% to 90% of the time i have a dream i get hurt. i do.

and yeah i know tuck and roll. and you could prob beat me in park. i have not done it yet. i may have to try that even tho i will most likely have one extremely epic wipe out. lol

    Thanks.

Yeah, I plan on just doing my own thing for a bit as a hobby, and polishing my skills to the point where they are expert. (I'm good on the editing, audio and graphics, since I do that everyday -- just need more field shooting time).

I checked out Red Bull Media House and they have a ton of openings, but of course they're all in Germany and I don't think my high school Deutsch will fly.

Do you just shoot stills or video too?

They're only at 26 posts. I think we have a good head start on them.

Because skiers don't understand we have a blindspot, and we tear up the hill! The ski patrol here always joke about around, the Snow school get serious about their hate of snowboarders though. Good thing the hill manager is a snowboarder.

First turns of the season today right out my front door in Teton Village, Wy on the closed soon to be open JHMR. Little low tide on lower hobacks but decent above, 16in or so of new powder....10+by tomorrow. Great to get the splitboard out and enjoy snow again! Looks to be a good season in Jackson starting up.
