Yeah I've actually been thinking it would be nice to get one for my shop for occasional use where I dont need my 210 or its too big, and also to mess around on and improve my tig skills, plus it could serve as a backup welder if my 210 goes down for some reason.

No clue on how to weld, but would like to get started. Haven't read through all the pages yet, but will. Was going to take a course at the community college but all full.

It would be a nice machine to work on your tig skills and for portable welding. Too bad its only DC though

yeah wish is was AC/DC so it could do aluminum TIG.
That might be a deal breaker really, since there probably isnt much that I'd be interested in TIG welding thats not aluminum. :(
Would be a great small welder for other stuff still though.

    Def great for other stuff.

I was pricing AC/DC units a while back and it seems like you're into one of those for almost $3k. Unless you're looking at Everlast or something similar.

When welding spindle gussests you just remove everything you can , and weld in different spots to prevent warp?

Don't forget to clean the metal on the spindle before welding. Grinding wheel does the job quick.

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
I stitch weld spindle gussets in 1.5 to 2" stitches spacing them about 3" apart to not over heat the spindle and warp it. Just pull the ball joints before you weld them I don't pull the Bering or anything.

I've never over heated a Bering just let it cool completely before you start the other stitches.

Haha it isn't ideal that I usually wear synthetic underwear too :/ but I've got a pair of pants that are now designated for welding..there's a shit ton of tiny black burn holes in them

no problem man! If I were getting an entry level TIG, that would be my choice.

I agree with stitch welding them but also, if you plan on really beating on them, I also suggest pre- and post-heating the spindle so you don't weaken them.

I have heard that if you beat on a stock spindle it will probably just bend but welded cast spindles usually crack when they are beat on too hard and I would bet its because of not pre- and post-heating them

Seems like a good choice. At some point, I might look around for a used one at my local shop--they seem to have stuff every once and a while.

Hmmm. And with that in mind, maybe UCA's or even LT down the road. My truck needs some new UCAs and rather than forking out the cash on some, I was considering building some but I would want to TIG those.
    :D
Ya me too. Seem to be a pretty good little setup for occasional projects.
